New Ice Blue dial for the Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance

Independent watchmaker Armin Strom has unveiled a new interpretation of its Mirrored Force Resonance model, now available for the first time with a sophisticated sunray guilloché decoration on its off-centre dial.

This remarkable timepiece, distinguished by its two balance wheels on the dial side, features a patented dual regulator mechanism that enhances precision and rate stability by harnessing the physical phenomenon of resonance.

Resonance allows two oscillators to influence each other’s rate by transmitting vibrational energy. Armin Strom achieved this effect by linking them through its in-house-developed Resonance Clutch Spring. This ingenious component connects two complete regulating systems, allowing them to synchronise over time.

When the two balances oscillate in opposite directions at the same rate, the system delivers greater stability, improved energy efficiency, and enhanced resistance to external disturbances.

The new Mirrored Force Resonance Ice Blue follows the inaugural First Edition in grey from 2022 and the Blue and Green Editions introduced in 2023, all fgeaturing off-centre dials with a textured grenage finish.

In contrast, the new Ice Blue model showcases a dial decorated using a traditional hand-operated rose engine lathe, creating a sunray guilloché pattern. The radiating lines from the centre play with the light, animated further by bevelled and polished indexes and hands under the sapphire crystal.

On the left side of the dial, the resonance mechanism takes centre stage. The two balances, oscillating in opposite directions, are connected by Armin Strom’s patented clutch spring. 

The anthracite-coloured bridges beautifully highlight the mechanical choreography.

Two seconds indicators rotate in mirrored clockwise and counterclockwise motions, confirming the synchronisation of the balances. A pusher at 2 o’clock resets them to zero, allowing the wearer to visually track the state of resonance.

The three-dimensional construction is presented under a raised sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, fitted to a 43 mm by 11.55 mm stainless steel case, water resistant to 3 ATM.

The transparent case back reveals the hand-wound Calibre ARF21, with an engraved main plate inscribed in bas-relief with the watch’s defining features. The movement’s symmetrical architecture is emphasised by the mirrored layout of openworked bridges and gears.

Each component is meticulously hand-finished by a dedicated watchmaker at the manufacture, using traditional Haute Horlogerie techniques such as perlage, satin brushing, chamfering and mirror polishing.

Operating at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour), the movement delivers a 48-hour power reserve, powered by two skeletonised mainspring barrels that wind simultaneously.

As with all Armin Strom creations, each watch is assembled twice to ensure both mechanical precision and the highest finishing standards.

Paired with a dark blue Alcantara strap with white stitching and a stainless steel folding clasp, the new Armin Strom Mirrored Force Resonance Ice Blue, reference ST25-RF.05, is a limited edition of 15 pieces and is priced at CHF 78,000. arminstrom.com
