IWC adds TOP GUN Miramar light blue option to its Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 line. Prices: €14,200 for ref. IW389409 and €7,700 for ref. IW388117

IWC is expanding its Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN line with two new chronographs distinguished by a new light blue colour.

This sporty collection already includes shades such as Mojave Desert, Lake Tahoe, Woodland, Oceana, and Jet Black, each inspired by the world of naval aviation and developed in collaboration with Pantone.

The new hue, named TOP GUN Miramar, draws inspiration from the light blue T-shirts worn by TOP GUN instructors under their flight suits.

The first model is the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 TOP GUN Miramar IW389409.

Limited to 1,000 pieces, this chronograph features a 41.9 mm x 15.5 mm ceramic case in the new light blue tone, complemented by a dial and water-repellent rubber strap in the same colour.

The blue hands are coated with Super-LumiNova to enhance legibility in low-light conditions.

Creating a coloured ceramic case is a true achievement in material engineering. Zirconium oxide is blended with carefully measured amounts of metallic oxides to achieve the desired hue. Because the colour changes during sintering, numerous tests are required to obtain the final result.

Matching this ceramic shade across different components of the watch—such as the dial and rubber strap—is also particularly challenging, as each element uses different materials and requires distinct production processes.

The second model is the Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 IW388117, featuring a 41 mm x 14.5 mm stainless steel case paired with a TOP GUN Miramar blue dial and matching rubber strap.

Protected by a convex sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both sides, the dial features IWC’s signature vertical layout, which places the stopped minutes at 12 o’clock for easy and intuitive reading. The large hands, filled with Super-LumiNova, are rhodium-plated in this version.

The IWC-manufactured 69380 calibre (ref. IW389409) and 69385 calibre (ref. IW388117) are column-wheel chronograph movements that beat at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offer a power reserve of 46 hours. 

Both are housed in cases featuring a soft-iron inner cage to protect against magnetic fields.

The stainless steel version includes an open case back, offering a view of the movement, while the ceramic model features a titanium case back engraved with the iconic “TOP GUN” logo.

Both models are equipped with IWC’s EasX-CHANGE system, which allows wearers to quickly and easily swap the strap without the need for tools. The lug width is 20 mm.

Thanks to a screw-in crown, both watches are water-resistant to a pressure of 10 bar (approximately 100 metres / 330 feet).
