Greubel Forsey has announced the final edition of the Balancier Contemporain, bringing to a close the chapter of one of its most emblematic calibres.

Introduced in 2019, the Balancier Contemporain marked a milestone for the Atelier: a moderately sized timepiece offering clear legibility and cutting-edge performance, while preserving all the signature characteristics and aesthetics of Greubel Forsey.

Retaining the same case dimensions (39.60 mm × 12.25 mm) as the original model, this final edition will be limited to 33 pieces, produced and delivered exclusively in 2025. Once completed, the calibre will be permanently retired.

To mark the occasion, Greubel Forsey has chosen stainless steel, combining a hand-polished bezel with a straight-grained caseband.

The architecture of the timepiece remains true to the original concept. Beneath its high-domed sapphire crystal lies a gold dial that plays creatively with multiple levels, textures and fine surface treatments.

The offset hours and minutes appear at 2 o’clock, with hand-polished steel hands and apertures revealing the gear train and the three-dimensional tripod bridge.

A sunburst blue hour ring surrounds the layout, complemented by a dark blue minute track and clearly defined sectors for the small seconds and power reserve.

Measuring 12.6 mm in diameter, the in-house balance wheel stands out within a large visual opening, suspended above a flat black-polished gold plate that adds depth and reflective contrast.

The movement, composed of 256 components, reflects the exacting standards that define Greubel Forsey’s approach to fine watchmaking. Hand-finishing is evident throughout: the nickel silver bridges are frosted and spotted by hand, with polished bevels and countersinks, straight-grained flanks, and a subtle blue treatment unique to this edition.

The balance wheel bridge is crafted from flat black-polished steel, a particularly demanding finish, with mirror-polished bevels that give it a sculptural presence. The base plate beneath the balance is finished in the same black-polished gold, offering a surface that is both architectural and functional.

Protected beneath a high-domed sapphire crystal, the caseback side of the new Balancier Contemporain showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of the brand.

At the centre is a circular red gold plate engraved with the GF logo and the individual number of the watch. Surrounding it is a white gold bridge, relief-engraved with Greubel Forsey’s core values and finished with a black polish. Gold chatons hold olive-domed jewels, with finely polished countersinks that reflect the red tone of the stones, completing the striking reverse side.
