Alpina debuts its first full-titanium Alpiner Extreme Automatic

Alpina is launching its first-ever all-titanium watch: the Alpiner Extreme Automatic in Grade 2 Titanium, reference AL-525S3AE1B.

The use of this material is particularly appropriate considering the sport-oriented nature of the collection. Titanium is not only half the weight of steel, but also offers superior corrosion resistance and is naturally hypoallergenic, ideal qualities for a timepiece designed to thrive in demanding outdoor environments.

The new model comes in a compact 39 mm × 11.50 mm case whose dynamic lines are highlighted by the alternation of satin-brushed and polished surfaces.

The cushion-shaped case middle is equipped with a round bezel secured by six screws, with heads shaped like the Alpina triangle.

Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 20 ATM (approximately 200 metres / 660 feet) thanks to the screw-in crown, which is embellished with the Alpina triangle and equipped with a rubber grip for easy handling.

The H-shaped brushed bracelet, also crafted from Grade 2 titanium, features polished sides and is secured to the wrist by a folding buckle with safety push buttons.

At first glance, the watch looks very similar to the Alpiner Extreme Automatic 39 mm models in steel (read our review here), but a closer inspection reveals the subtly different sheen of titanium. Moreover, on the wrist, the reduced weight achieved by using titanium components delivers a new wearing experience.

The dial is embossed with the triangular motif symbolising the alpine summits from which the brand takes its name.

The brilliant light grey, paired with a satin finish, complements the titanium case, making the overall design feel cohesive and natural.

The applied indexes, along with the large hour and minute hands, are filled with white luminescent material that glows green in low-light conditions.

The red counterweight on the seconds hand adds a lively touch to the layout.

Behind the solid caseback, stamped with the alpine summits that inspired the brand’s name, beats the self-winding AL-525 calibre (based on the Sellita SW200-1).

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this is the same movement found in the 41 mm version of the Alpiner Extreme Automatic. The black, satin-brushed oscillating weight, adorned with the Alpina logo, ensures a power reserve of 38 hours.
