Baume & Mercier previews 3 new Clifton Baumatic models - 10778, 10771 , 10802 - ahead of the full collection launch this September. Prices from €3,550
The Clifton Baumatic by Baume & Mercier is a long-standing favourite here at Time and Watches. It brings together a well-balanced design, widely appreciated for its clarity and elegance, with a manufacture movement that performs to a high standard. It offers this combination with a level of accessibility that remains rare in this category.
The Clifton collection builds on the legacy of round, slim watches that were popular in the 1950s. Characterised by gold cases, light dials with Arabic numerals, and slightly domed crystals, these timepieces reflected a refined aesthetic and a high level of craftsmanship.
In its ongoing pursuit of refinement, Baume & Mercier will present a new generation of the Clifton collection in 2025.
Three new Clifton Baumatic models — references M0A10778, M0A10771, and M0A10802 — were previewed at Watches and Wonders 2025, offering a first look at the full collection, which will launch this September.
All models feature a 39 mm case whose proportions and finishings have been thoroughly reworked. The thickness has been reduced to 11.5 mm compared to 12.2 mm and even 12.6 mm in previous models.
Highlighted by alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces, the slimmer profile enhances wearing comfort and adds to the refinement of each piece, contributing to an increasingly contemporary aesthetic.
Arabic numerals make a return at 12 o’clock, while the hour markers have been lengthened for improved legibility. The date disk, now visible through a wide aperture at 6 o’clock, features a newly designed font. A domed sapphire crystal recalls the spirit of the original model that inspired the collection.
The crown is more slender and better integrated, and the strap buckle is now interchangeable.
A limited edition of 350 pieces, the Clifton Baumatic M0A10778 comes in stainless steel and features a bright opaline salmon-hued dial that enhances the vintage charm of the timepiece.
Fastened with four screws and covered by a sapphire crystal, the case back bears the special engraving “Limited Edition One Of 350.”
The interchangeable strap is crafted in black calfskin and can be easily changed without the need for tools, thanks to its spring bar system. The watch is also delivered with an additional strap in beige calfskin. Both straps are equipped with an interchangeable triple folding clasp in stainless steel with security push-pieces.
Also crafted from stainless steel, the Clifton Baumatic M0A10771 features a blue dial with a subtle gradation, darker around the edges and lighter in the centre. A lacquered finish enhances its tonal nuances. This gleaming blue decor creates a striking background for the contrasting white crosshairs, hour markers, and date indication.
The interchangeable strap is crafted in blue alligator with all-square scales, tone-on-tone overstitching on the top, a beige lining with bordeaux overstitching on the underside, and bar tacks around the buckle. It fastens with a stainless steel interchangeable triple folding clasp with security push-pieces.
Crafted from 18-carat rose gold, the third model is the Clifton Baumatic M0A10802. It features an off-white dial with a grained finish that intensifies its radiance.
Edged by a black minute track and crossed by black crosshairs at the centre, the dial is adorned with 5N gold-plated, riveted, faceted, slightly elongated trapezoidal indexes, and an Arabic numeral “12” at 12 o’clock.
The alpha-shaped hour and minute hands, along with the central seconds hand, are also 5N gold-plated.
The interchangeable strap is crafted in brown alligator leather with all-square scales and tone-on-tone overstitching on the top, a beige lining with ochre overstitching on the underside, and bar tacks around the buckle. It fastens with a 5N gold-tone PVD steel pin buckle.
The gold used in this model weighs approximately 23.20 grams.
All models are powered by the Manufacture Baumatic movement (BM13-1975A), which operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and delivers a remarkable 5-day power reserve (120 hours).
It is also resistant to everyday magnetic fields up to 1,500 Gauss, enhancing its reliability in daily wear.
The movement’s refined finishes can be admired through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback. These include circular graining on the bridges, a sandblasted and snailed baseplate, and an openworked oscillating weight adorned with snailed Côtes de Genève. The rotor bears a distinctive Baume & Mercier engraving, underscoring the calibre’s sophisticated aesthetic.
Water-resistant up to 5 ATM (approximately 50 metres), the new Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic models are priced at €3,550 / US$3,450 in stainless steel, and €8,900 / US$8,500 in 18-carat rose gold. baume-et-mercier.com
