With the Kaenos collection, MeisterSinger has opened a new chapter in its distinctive single-hand watchmaking, marking its entry into the luxury steel watch segment.
The German brand, best known for its elegant, minimalist creations, offers a sportier take on its signature concept while retaining the essence that has made its designs so recognisable.
Following the presentation of the new line last March, which includes four dial colours for each of the two models, the solo-tempo Kaenos and the Kaenos Open Date, we had the opportunity to spend some time with two of them: the Kaenos in matt black (ref. KS902) and the Kaenos Open Date in sunburst petrol (ref. KSOD939).
The 40 mm case is a completely new design for MeisterSinger. Measuring 11.20 mm thick, it presents a harmonious mix of polished and brushed surfaces that gives the watch a strong presence on the wrist without appearing bulky.
The integrated bracelet contributes to this effect, offering a smooth flow between case and strap, enhanced by alternating finishes that echo the treatment of the case itself.
In the metal, they clearly deliver on the brand’s goal of combining everyday utility with a bold yet refined aesthetic.
Water resistance is rated at 10 bar (approximately corresponding to a depth of 100 metres / 330 feet), which increases its versatility for daily use.
The newly designed crown, adorned with the fermata symbol, is both elegant and easy to grip.
On an average wrist, the watch wears extremely well, aided by the natural curve of the lugs and the flexible links of the bracelet. As a reference, the wrist shown in the pictures measures 17.7 cm / 7 inches.
The butterfly clasp closes securely, and the overall comfort is excellent.
The bracelet is also equipped with an easy-change system, which makes it quick and simple to replace. This feature could allow users to easily switch to other strap options that may be offered in the future.
The Kaenos dial introduces a new construction for MeisterSinger. The hour numerals and indices are precisely cut out from the upper dial, revealing a luminous layer beneath.
This technique produces a sense of depth, while also enhancing visibility in low-light conditions thanks to the generous use of white Super-LumiNova, which glows blue in the dark.
The single luminous hand, redesigned for this collection and inspired by early measuring instruments, reinforces the idea of time as something to be read at a glance, rather than calculated to the second.
The Kaenos Open Date in petrol plays beautifully with the light. Its sunburst finish reveals a vibrant spectrum of blue and green tones depending on the viewing angle, bringing life to the dial without disrupting its symmetry.
The date is indicated by means of a recessed concentric ring that openly rotates in the centre of the dial.
Each day at midnight, it advances by one step, displaying the current date just below 12 o'clock, as highlighted by a small red arrow positioned above the MeisterSinger logo.
By contrast, the Kaenos in matt black has a more understated, instrumental feel. Here, the single hand stands out more strongly against the dark background, and the date aperture at 6 o’clock integrates neatly into the design without interrupting its flow.
Both watches are powered by modified automatic movements from Swiss manufacturer Sellita.
The Kaenos Open Date uses the SW200, while the Kaenos features the slightly larger SW400 calibre, which accommodates the 6 o’clock date aperture within the overall dial layout.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), these reliable movements offer a power reserve of 38 hours and are visible through the exhibition case back.
The finishing is classic, with a decorated rotor and clean layout that highlight functionality and reliability.
The Kaenos collection brings MeisterSinger’s signature single-hand display into a more contemporary and versatile context—through a new case design, integrated bracelet, and layered dial construction—while staying true to the brand’s core proposition.
Whether one is drawn to the minimalism of the Kaenos or the added functionality of the Kaenos Open Date, both versions offer a refined and modern expression of the concept. As its first step into this segment, the Kaenos collection makes a strong and convincing impression.
At €2,650 for the Kaenos and €2,950 for the Kaenos Open Date, both models present a compelling choice for those looking for something distinctive in the crowded field of luxury steel watches. meistersinger.com
