IWC releases four Ingenieur and Pilot’s Watch models inspired by the F1 movie

IWC has released a collection of four timepieces to mark its involvement in the upcoming "F1" movie directed by Joseph Kosinski. The film stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former driver returning to the grid, racing for the fictional APXGP team alongside Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.

In the movie, Hayes wears a bespoke watch based on the historic Ingenieur SL Reference 1832. Created in collaboration with Cloister Watch Company, a studio known for crafting custom timepieces from vintage models, this prop watch served as the starting point for a new limited edition. 

The result is the Ingenieur Automatic 40 ref. IW328908, featuring a stainless steel case and bracelet, a green “Grid” dial, and gold-plated markers and hands filled with Super-LumiNova. The colour combination echoes the watch worn on screen.

Limited to 1000 pieces, this edition remains faithful to the Ingenieur design with its signature bezel secured by five functional screws and an integrated bracelet with butterfly folding clasp. 

Inside ticks the IWC-manufactured calibre 32111, which offers a power reserve of 120 hours. The soft-iron inner case protects the movement against magnetic fields. The watch is water resistant to 10 bar.

In the film, IWC appears as one of the official sponsors of the fictional APXGP team. Its branding can be seen on the cars, driver suits, helmets, team uniforms, and inside the garage. 

Various characters also wear models from IWC’s Pilot’s Watch collection, which appear as the official team watches.

To mark the partnership, IWC is launching three additional chronographs with design codes inspired by the APXGP livery. 

The Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 ref. IW388309, worn by Damson Idris’s character, features an 18-carat 5N gold case with a black lacquered dial, gold appliques, gold-plated hands, and a black ceramic tachymeter bezel. 

The watch is fitted with a black rubber strap equipped with the EasX-CHANGE quick-release system.

Two stainless steel chronographs complete the release. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP ref. IW378009 comes in a 43 mm case, while the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 APXGP ref. IW388116 is housed in a 41 mm case. 

Both models feature black dials with white numerals and golden details, including gold-plated hands filled with white Super-LumiNova. 

Their sapphire case backs are tinted and printed with the APXGP logo in gold. Each model is paired with a black rubber strap engraved with a commemorative pattern and fitted with the quick-change system.

All three chronographs are powered by the IWC-manufactured calibre 69385. This column-wheel movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a 46-hour power reserve. It comprises 242 components and features a bi-directional pawl winding system.
