For its 20th anniversary in 2025, MB&F presents two new LM101 EVO editions in titanium, offered with either a salmon or peacock-green dial plate.
The Legacy Machine 101, first introduced in 2014, is one of the most compact creations in the Legacy Machine family. With a 40 mm x 16.5 mm case, it is the smallest and thinnest of the line, yet it showcases a highly three-dimensional movement dominated by a monumental 14 mm “flying” balance wheel suspended above the dial.
As its “101” name suggests, the model focuses on the fundamentals of a mechanical wristwatch: the regulating balance wheel, the power reserve indicator showing the remaining energy in the mainspring, and the display of hours and minutes.
The LM101 was also the first calibre entirely conceived by MB&F’s in-house engineering team. Independent master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen contributed to the design and finishing specifications, ensuring that its architecture and 19th-century hand-finishing techniques upheld the highest Haute Horlogerie standards.
Over the past decade the model has appeared in numerous versions crafted in white, rose and yellow gold, platinum, palladium and stainless steel, each paired with a wide array of dial colours and finishes.
The new LM101 EVO models introduce the EVO treatment to this reference. EVO is a concept created by MB&F to enhance robustness and wearability, making certain Legacy Machine timepieces better suited to daily life and active use.
It was first presented in 2020 with the LM Perpetual EVO, later joined by the LM Split Escapement EVO and the LM Sequential EVO in 2022.
The EVO range
Watches in the EVO family offer 80-metre water resistance, a screw-down crown, an integrated rubber strap and MB&F’s patented FlexRing shock absorber, a stainless steel spring fitted between the case and the movement to protect against shocks. Their design is recognisable for its ergonomic case shape and the absence of a bezel, which allows an unobstructed view of the Super-LumiNova-enhanced displays through a domed sapphire crystal. Movements are given a darker treatment, reinforcing the more contemporary and sporty character of these models.
For 2025, the LM101 EVO is offered in titanium with two dial plate colours created using chemical vapour deposition, chosen for its precision since the plate forms an integral part of the movement.
The peacock green variant captivates with its shifting tones of green, blue and purple as the light changes, while the salmon version stands out as a rare hue within MB&F’s palette. Two black subdials hover above the plate, highlighted with finely circled borders.
At the top right, hours and minutes are displayed with newly designed white gold hands, while the power reserve is indicated below. This display now reflects an important technical upgrade, as the calibre’s reserve has been extended from 45 to 60 hours.
The twin arches that carry the flying balance wheel, beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, are milled from a single block of metal and then polished by hand until achieving a flawless mirror finish.
The escapement wheel has also been refined, echoing the battle-axe motif that is a recurring signature of MB&F creations.
On the reverse, a box sapphire crystal reveals the darkened movement with Geneva waves, hand-polished bevels, gold chatons, blued screws and elegantly curved plates and bridges reminiscent of 19th-century pocket watches. Each piece is completed with either a white or grey rubber strap.
Although not formally limited, only a few dozen LM101 EVO watches will be produced each year. The price is CHF 62,000 before taxes. mbandf.com
