Grand Seiko Tentagraph SLGC006 with copper-pink dial inspired by Mt. Iwate

Grand Seiko unveils the Tentagraph SLGC006, a 300-piece edition inspired by Mt. Iwate’s sunrise and featuring a copper-pink dial. Price: €23,000

Grand Seiko has released a new interpretation of its Tentagraph chronograph, first introduced in 2023.

The new Tentagraph ref. SLGC006 draws inspiration from the morning sunrise over Mt. Iwate, the peak visible from the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where the brand’s mechanical watches are manufactured.

Formed around 700,000 years ago, Mt. Iwate is one of Japan’s most active volcanoes, in a country with more than 100 active volcanic peaks.

The striking copper-pink dial features a radial pattern inspired by a bird’s-eye view of Mt. Iwate’s ridgeline.

At 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, the dial hosts the running seconds, 12-hour chronograph counter, and 30-minute chronograph counter, respectively. The space between the hands, indexes, and dial has been minimised for improved legibility, while the chronograph seconds hand is gently curved so that its tip extends precisely to the markers at the dial’s edge.

The date display, positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, allows all twelve indexes to remain visible and ensures balanced legibility of the sub-dials.

The Tentagraph—its name referencing its high-beat rate (TEN beats per second), three-day power reserve (Three days), and function (Automatic chronoGRAPH)—is housed in a 43.2 mm × 15.3 mm case crafted from high-intensity titanium, 18k rose gold, and black ceramic. 

The bezel, in ceramic, is engraved with a tachymeter scale, while the box-shaped sapphire crystal is treated with an anti-reflective coating.

The three-link bracelet with three-fold clasp alternates distortion-free Zaratsu-polished surfaces with satin brushing for a refined look.

Water resistance is rated to 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet), with a screw-down crown ensuring reliability.

Inside beats the Caliber 9SC5, a high-frequency chronograph movement operating at 10 beats per second, with a three-day power reserve even when the chronograph is in use. This makes it the 10-beat chronograph with the longest power reserve in the industry.

The movement’s efficiency is enhanced by two barrels and Grand Seiko’s Dual Impulse Escapement, which transfers energy to the free-sprung balance wheel both indirectly, via the pallet fork, and directly, from the escape wheel.

Each movement undergoes 20 days of testing to meet the Grand Seiko Standard of +5 to -3 seconds per day. The architecture and finishing of the calibre are visible through the exhibition caseback.
