With the new Pilot Type 20 Blueprint, the designers at the Zenith Manufacture decided to highlight the calculations and criteria that define the aesthetics of its dial by incorporating its production plans directly onto it.
This unique dial is created in two parts: a matte blue base with all technical plans and notes used by the dial-maker, and above it a sapphire crystal and a sapphire crystal layer with the usual markers and logo. This creates a nice visual depth effect, with the markings casting a shadow on the blue base.
The imposing 45 mm case is crafted from stainless steel with polished and satin-brushed surfaces. The oversized “onion” shaped crown - originally designed to allow the time to be adjusted even while wearing flight gloves - is one of the signature features of this model.
On the left side, a screwed plaque bears the unique limited edition number of each watch. Matched to a blue calfskin leather strap with rivets and a titanium pin buckle, the Pilot Type 20 is water resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (approximately 100 metres / 330 feet).
The automatic Elite Calibre 679 beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and provides the user with an autonomy of 50 hours.
Limited to 250 pieces, the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Blueprint ref. 03.2435.679/51.I012 has a retail price of CHF 8,400 / Euro 8,300 / US$ 8,200. zenith-watches.com
