Norqain - Freedom 60 GMT

Norqain is expanding its Freedom 60 collection with four timepieces powered by the new proprietary calibres introduced earlier this year: two GMT models that we present in this article and two three-hand watches that we describe here.

The highlight of this launch is the Freedom 60 GMT in stainlees steel – the first GMT to join Norqain’s Freedom collection.

Framed by a 40 mm x 14.5 mm case, the black dial introduces a new GMT scale that makes it possible to keep track of the time in a second time zone.

It includes an anthracite or black half-ring from 18:00 (6 pm) to 6:00 (6 am) that indicates night-time hours and a white half-ring from 6:00 (6 am) to 18:00 (6 pm) that indicates daytime hours.

The steel model is joined by the Freedom 60 GMT in bronze that will be produced in a limited edition of just 300 pieces.

The bronze silicon-aluminium alloy is commonly used in marine applications because it is particularly resistant to corrosion and wear. A typical characteristic of this material is that, although very resistant, it can form a patina with time depending on its environment, gaining a unique shade over the years.

The bezel, the Norqain plate on the caseband, the hand-applied indexes and faceted hands are also bronze while the caseback is made in steel treated with bronze PVD.

Hands and indexes are filled with “Old Radium” Super-LumiNova for enhanced visibility in poor light conditions.

Protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire glass that is characterised by a domed shape reminiscent of watch design in the 1960s, the particular cedar brown colour of the dial adds appeal to the whole.

Both models are powered by the brand's proprietary Calibre NN20/2 guaranteeing a 70-hour, weekend-proof power reserve. Presented earlier this year, this new self-winding mechanical movement is certified by COSC as a chronometer and offers an innovative jumping hour feature that makes it possible to safely and easily set the time for a new time zone without losing a second.

Visible through the transparent caseback, the bridge of the movement is engraved with Norqain's core values, “Adventure – Freedom – Independence”, and the oscillating weight is decorated with the golden “double-N” logo, which symbolises the Swiss Alps.

The stainless steel Norqain Freedom 60 GMT is available on a Norlando leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet with prices of CHF 3,490 and CHF 3,760 respectively while the limited edition in bronze matched to a Norlando leather strap retails at CHF 3,790. norqain.com
