In 2019 Bulgari released the Gerald Genta 50th Anniversary Watch to celebrate 50 years since the establishment of Gerald Genta's own brand that the Italian luxury giant acquired in 2000.
That model was housed in a round Arena case, a design that the famous designer introduced in 1996 as the first retrograde watch on the market. It featured an architectural shape inspired by the structure of the ancient “arenas”, hence its name.
This year, Bulgari is presenting another new model that pays homage to Gérald Genta and comes in the same iconic, chunky case.
The new Gerald Genta Arena Bi-Retro Sport (where Retro stands for Retrograde) is made of brushed titanium and is 43 mm in diameter and 12 mm thick. It is water-resistant up to 100 metres / 330 feet.
The wide, curved bezel frames a black and anthracite dial with yellow indexes and hands where the jumping hours are displayed through a window at 12 o’clock, while the minutes are tracked on an arc spanning the top half, across which the minute hand travels and snaps back to zero every 60 minutes. The date is set in a smaller arc at 6 o’clock.
Visible through a scratch resistant sapphire case back, the BVL 300 caliber with a bidirectional self-winding movement beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a 42-hour power reserve.
Matched to a matte black alligator strap with a titanium ardillon buckle, the Bulgari Gerald Genta Arena Bi-Retro Sport ref. 103448 has a price of Euro 15,000 (including VAT) / US$ 14,800 (excluding sales taxes). bulgari.com
