German watchmaker Glashütte Original has partnered with renowned Meissen porcelain manufactory to create the Senator Meissen, a series of three limited-edition wristwatches distinguished by hand-painted porcelain dials.

Framed by elegant red gold cases, these timepieces pay tribute to traditional artistry, fine detail, and creativity.

Though based in different cities, the two manufactories share a deep commitment to craft and precision. Glashütte Original, marking 180 years of watchmaking in 2025, and Meissen, Europe’s first porcelain manufactory with 315 years of history, both uphold a legacy of excellence that has made their names synonymous with quality and refinement. 

Their partnership unites generations of expertise in a collection that seamlessly bridges horology and decorative art.

Every Senator Meissen is a miniature work of art. Their slim 40 mm x 10.23 mm red gold case frames the hand-painted dials, whose hour and minute displays are kept intentionally minimal, allowing the porcelain artistry to take centre stage. 

The dials are fashioned from razor-thin porcelain discs, which are first fired at 1,400°C before being meticulously inspected for surface perfect flatness. 

Decorative motifs, lettering, and Roman numerals are then hand-painted in multiple layers, each one fired again at 900°C to achieve rich colour and lasting depth.

The new series comprises three distinct dials.

The first version, limited to 150 pieces, features Meissen’s ornamental Mystic Maison motif in delicate grey on white porcelain.

A second, also limited to 150 pieces, offers the same design in green celadon, a shade which recalls ancient Chinese ceramics.

The third and most exclusive edition, limited to just 8 pieces, features a collage inspired by Meissen’s Dekorwelten crater vase, depicting vivid animals and flowers on a celadon background, evoking a whimsical, fairy-tale atmosphere.

The slimness of the watch is made possible by the low height of the in-house designed and manufactured Calibre 36, a state-of-the-art automatic movement operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offering a remarkable 100-hour power reserve.

Its silicon balance spring ensures resistance to magnetic fields and temperature variations, while the stop-seconds mechanism allows for precise time setting. 

Visible through the sapphire crystal back, the movement showcases hallmark Glashütte finishes: a three-quarter plate with stripe decoration, hand-engraved balance cock, sunburst-finished winding chain, and a skeletonised rotor with a 21-carat gold weight.
