H. Moser & Cie. is well known among mechanical watch enthusiasts for its perpetual calendar implementation, where the hour indices are used to mark the months by means of a small central hand in addition to the hour and minutes hands (see, as an example, the Pioneer Perpetual Calendar that we presented here). With this approach, only the aperture for the date is needed. Now, for the first time, Moser is presenting a perpetual calendar timepiece with two windows that display the date and the month.
The novelty has been developed for the Pioneer line, the sportiest of the brand, with the goal to deliver a practical, easy to use and read perpetual calendar model that can be worn under any conditions, whether on land or underwater.
Featuring a 42.8 mm stainless steel case water-resistant to 120 metres / 400 feet, the new Pioneer Perpetual Calendar MD is available in two editions, each limited to just 50 pieces, with bold colours: the first features a Funky Blue dial with traditional indexes and markers (ref. 3808-1201), the second is dressed in a new Burgundy colour and stripped of almost all indications except for the dots that mark the hours (ref. 3808-1200).
The leaf-shaped hands are partially skeletonised and filled with Super-LumiNova, as are the hour marker dots on the flange.
The two large windows at 3 o'clock display the date and month while at 6 and 9 o'clock we find a small second sub-dial and a power reserve indicator, respectively.
The date can be set at any time of the day, forwards or backwards, with no risk to the movement.
The leap year cycle indicator is visible on the caseback where the sapphire crystal showcases the HMC 808 hand-wound movement beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of at least seven days thanks to its double barrel.
Matched to a black alligator leather strap, the H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Perpetual Calendar MD has a price of Swiss Francs 39,900. h-moser.com
