Officine Panerai 2018 novelties: Luminor California DLC PAM779. Price and Specs of the new Officine Panerai Luminor California 8 Days DLC PAM00779
The latest model from Officine Panerai comes with the iconic lines of the Luminor case, immediately recognisable for the patented bridge device with locking lever to protect the winding crown.
Measuring 44 mm in diameter, the case of the new Luminor California 8 Days DLC PAM779 is made in titanium black DLC for a sporty and masculine look. It offers water resistance to 300 metres / 1,000 feet.
The domed AR-coated sapphire crystal protects the black dial characterised by a combination of Roman and Arabic numerals and graphic markers. Known as the California dial, this variation reproduces the design of the first Panerai watch in history, the Radiomir of 1936.
The movement is the in-house developed and manufactured hand-wound Panerai Calibre P.5000 whose variable inertia balance oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The long running time is achieved by two spring barrels connected in series which store the power reserve of eight days.
The strong character of the watch is further enhanced by the Bund-style strap made of brown aged leather. An additional black rubber strap is included in the box.
Bund straps features a removable extra layer of padding beneath the back of the case. They were invented for German pilots in World War II to avoid a direct contact of the watch with the skin. In fact, in the event of a plane crash and ensuing fire, the metal case could quickly become superheated. In a similar way, in high altitudes the temperature could drop dramatically making the metal freeze to the skin. Bund straps are also a solution for those suffering from metal allergies.
