Rolex Perpetual 1908 in Platinum with Guilloché dial

At Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, Rolex presented a new Perpetual 1908 model in 950 Platinum that adds to the inaugural timepieces of the Perpetual collection, in white gold and rose gold, launched in 2023.

The classic round case measures 39 mm x 9.50 mm and is crowned with a bezel that is domed in the upper part and finely fluted in the lower one.

The curves of the lugs are highlighted by a gentle chamfering on their top edges. Waterproofness is guaranteed up to a pressure of 5 bar (50 metres / 165 feet).

A standout feature is the ice blue dial adorned with a guilloché rice-grain motif, marking a first for Rolex.

This intricate pattern, reminiscent of a rosette, boasts a three-dimensional geometric layout that spans the dial's surface, originating from the small seconds subdial positioned at 6 o'clock. The minute track is surrounded by a filet sauté with a crimped pattern, which is also guilloché.

The incorporation of a guilloché dial, crafted through engine turning – a method utilizing a turning tool to carve patterns into a surface – underscores the Perpetual collection's homage to classical aesthetics.

The exclusive dial is graced with Arabic numerals 3, 9 and 12, and faceted index hour markers. The hour hand is distinctive for the circle just before the tip, while the minute hand is shaped like a two edged sword.

The transparent sapphire crystal case back offers a clear view of Calibre 7140, a self-winding movement entirely manufactured by Rolex.

This movement incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement, known for its energy efficiency and reliability, thanks to its nickel-phosphorus construction, offering robust resistance to powerful magnetic fields.

Additionally, the movement features the patented Syloxi hairspring, an innovation by Rolex. Made of silicon, this hairspring boasts a patented geometry ensuring precise timekeeping in any position. The oscillator is mounted on Rolex's patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, designed to enhance the movement's resistance to shocks.

The bridges are adorned with the iconic Rolex Côtes de Genève, while the openworked oscillating weight is crafted from 18 ct yellow gold.

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the new Calibre 7140 provides a power reserve of 66 hours.

Like all Rolex timepieces, the Perpetual 1908 bears the Superlative Chronometer certification, as remarked by the inscription ‘Superlative Chronometer’ arcing above the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. This certification ensures precision within the range of -2/+2 seconds per day – a level of accuracy far surpassing the COSC standards for movement certification alone.

The watch is paired with a matt brown alligator leather strap with green calfskin lining and tone-on-tone stitching. It is fastened by a triple folding clasp in 950 platinum.
