Omega presents the Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 special editions

The 2024 Summer Olympics (26 July - 11 August 2024), officially the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad and also known as Paris 2024, begin in less than 100 days. As the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games for the 30th time in history since 1932, Omega celebrates the event with four special versions of its Speedmaster Chronoscope, a model that we reviewed here. 

The name Chronoscope (from the Greek “Chronos” = time and “Scope” = observe) was expressly chosen to remark the capability of this model to perform various measurements based on the passing of time. 

Presented in stainless steel with an anodized aluminium bezel, or in 18K Moonshine Gold case with a ceramic bezel, the Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 can be paired to either a bracelet matching the case or to a calfskin leather strap.

The 43 mm asymmetrical  case maintains distinctive elements of the Speedmaster such as the twisted lugs, the crown guards and the flat-capped chronograph pushers. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 5 bar (50 metres / 165 feet).

The silvery white opaline dial is transferred with three dark grey timing scales in a 1940s-inspired “snail” design. These include a tachymeter scale, a pulsometer scale, and a telemeter scale, bringing a wide range of measurements to the wrist.  

The blackened subdials, Arabic numerals in 18K Moonshine Gold, and leaf-shaped hands and subdial hands complete the fascinating ensemble.

The back of the Speedmaster Chronoscope Paris 2024 displays its link to the Olympic Games with a commemorative caseback. It showcases a stamped medallion with a frosted base, highlighting a mirror-polished Paris 2024 logo and the stamped words "Paris 2024" and the Olympic Rings. 

Behind the solid caseback, the hand-wound Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9908 / 9909 operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 60 hours thanks to its two barrels mounted in series with anti-wear Diamond-Like-Carbon coating.

The entire watch, not just the movement, is certified as a Master Chronometer, the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic-resistance in the Swiss watch industry, by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The silicon Si14 balance spring makes it possible to guarantee resistance to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss.
