Together with the new Speedmaster Moonwatch in stainless steel that we reviewed here, Omega also presented two precious versions in Sedna gold and Canopus gold.
Sedna gold is a special rose gold alloy developed to improve brilliance and longevity over time. It combines gold, copper and palladium.
Similarly, Canopus is the name chosen for the proprietary white gold alloy created by Omega to enhance brilliance and whiteness.
These two precious Speedmaster Moonwatch models maintain all the distinctive design details of the steel version including the classic 42 mm asymmetrical case with twisted lugs, the step dial, the domed minute and seconds chronograph hands which follow the bevel of the step dial, the double bevel caseback, and the famous dot over 90 (DON) and a dot diagonal to 70 on the anodised aluminium bezel ring.
The watches are water resistant up to a pressure of 5 bar (approximately 50 metres / 165 feet).
The black or silver dials are protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment inside. Sapphire crystals are also featured on the caseback to showcase the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, which powers the small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder, along with the central chronograph function.
In accordance with the Calibre 3861’s frequency (3 Hz or 21,600 vibrations per hour), the minute track of the dial is now split by 3 divisions, as opposed to the 5 divisions on previous models.
The new movement has not only improved its chronometric performance but also its power reserve, increased to more than two full days or 50 hours.
This movement also ensures that the Moonwatch will not be affected by even extreme magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss thanks to its silicon Si14 balance spring.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch in Sedna gold has a price of Euro 24,700 with a leather strap (ref. 310.63.42.50.01.001) or Euro 34,900 with a Sedna gold bracelet (ref. 310.60.42.50.01.001). The version in Canopus gold retails at Euro 30.500,00 on a leather strap (ref. 310.63.42.50.02.001) or Euro 45,400 with a Canopus gold bracelet (ref. 310.60.42.50.02.001). omegawatches.com
