A tribute to legendary aviators of the past like Amelia Earhart, Paul-Emile Victor, Elinor Smith and Howard Hughes, the new Spirit Collection by Longines takes traditional features from pilot's watches and combine them with a contemporary design.
The oversized crown, the flange, the step around the crystal, the font of the dial, the large and luminous hands and hour markers are typical elements of the pilot's watches seen in the early days of aviation.
The Collection includes three-hand/date models in two sizes (40 mm and 42 mm) and a chronograph (42 mm).
The dial of the three-hand model is available in matte black or grained silver while the chronograph is proposed with a sunray blue dial, all stamped with five applied stars, a symbol used to remark that Longines consider this watch at their top in terms of quality and reliability.
The case has beautiful finishes alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces.
The new range is equipped with self-winding movements with silicon hairsprings for increased accuracy. The three-hand models are powered by the 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour) Calibre L888.4 offering an autonomy of 64 hours while the choice for the chronograph was the column-wheel movement Calibre L688.4 (base ETA A08.L01) beating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) with a power reserve of 60 hours. For the chronograph, the screwed pusher at 10 o'clock is used to adjust the date in lieu of a less practical corrector that usually requires a tool to be operated.
All movements are certified as chronometers by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres).
Thanks to the screw-in crown and the engraved caseback secured with six screws, the watches are water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet.
The new models of the Spirit Collection can be matched to a steel bracelet or to leather straps in dark brown, light brown or blue. The three-hand references have prices of Euro 2,050 while the chronograph retails at Euro 2,980. longines.com
