SIHH 2019: Montblanc - Heritage Perpetual Calendar

The Montblanc Heritage Perpetual Calendar is an example of how the vintage aesthetics can be successfully combined with today's advanced technology. The 40 mm round case - available in stainless steel or in red gold for the 100-piece limited edition - is highlighted by its refined curved horns and domed sapphire glass box. The Montblanc Heritage Perpetual Calendar in stainless steel (ref. 119925) has a retail price of Euro 15,300 while the 100-piece Limited Edition in red gold (ref. 119926) retails at Euro 25,500.
Introduced by Montblanc at this year's Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva, the new Heritage product line is inspired by the timeless elegance of the historical Minerva classic wristwatches from the 1940s and 1950s. (Minerva became a department of Montblanc following the acquisition of the Fabrique d'Horlogerie Minerva SA by Swiss luxury goods group Richemont in 2007. You can read the history of Minerva here).

The 40 mm round case - available in stainless steel or in red gold for the 100-piece limited edition - is highlighted by its refined curved horns and domed sapphire glass box. It frames a domed silvery-white dial with bent Dauphine hour- and minute-hands treated with luminescent material and dots as indexes, except for the "12" Arabic numerals.

The Montblanc Heritage Perpetual Calendar features a brand-new manufacture movement, the calibre MB 29.22, that indicates the hours, minutes, day, date, month, moonphase and leap year in a dial which offers excellent legibility thanks to its large counters at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.

Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and guaranteeing 48 hours of autonomy, this self-winding movement is composed solely of wheels, in contrast to most perpetual calendars that use levers. This enables the user to adjust the watch via the crown in both directions, making it far simpler to set.

Montblanc watchmakers also integrated a safety feature that prevents the user from setting the watch between the hours of 8 pm and 12 pm, when any manipulation could damage the movement as the correctors are locked.

The Heritage model is also equipped with a practical dual-time function by means of a central skeletonized hand and a 24-hour indicator at 9 o'clock.

Completed by a Sfumato alligator-skin strap (gray for the steel model and brown for the red gold one), the watch is water resistant to 50 metres / 165 feet.
