MB&F SP One Pavée frames its floating movement with 255 diamonds

MB&F extends its Special Projects collection with the SP One Pavée, a diamond-set interpretation of the SP One first presented in 2025.

Developed as an exploration of a more restrained form of watchmaking for the brand, the SP One introduced a 38 mm case and a movement built around three visually suspended elements: the barrel, balance wheel and inclined time display. 

The new Pavée version retains that architecture while introducing a white gold case set with diamonds.

The project originated from a sketch dating back to 2018 and was initially known as “Three Circles”, referring to the three principal elements around which the movement was designed.

The movement places the barrel, balance wheel and dial at the centre of the watch, with the three elements sharing identical circumferences and appearing to float within the case. Sapphire crystals on both sides reinforce the effect, while the movement architecture keeps most of the bridges and components out of sight.

The balance wheel is positioned at 2 o’clock, where its oscillation becomes part of the visual composition, while the inclined dial is positioned at 6 o’clock.

The tilted display is more than a stylistic feature. Its orientation allows MB&F to use conical gearing to transmit the indications while preserving the distinctive three-dimensional architecture. 

The result is a mechanical layout in which the relationship between the visible components and the concealed gearing becomes part of the watch’s visual identity.

Surrounding the movement is the structure MB&F refers to as the “amphitheatre”, a bevelled flange that frames the suspended elements and directs attention towards the movement.

Viewed from the reverse side, the construction reveals a more traditional approach to Haute Horlogerie.

The 191-component hand-wound movement operates at a frequency of 2.5 Hz (18,000 vibrations per hour) and provides a power reserve of 72 hours. 

The bridges are finished in rhodium to complement the white gold case and diamond setting. The wheels are hand-angled, the bevels are polished and the components combine satin, polished and micro-blasted surfaces. 

Hand-made engravings and prominent chatons further reinforce the artisanal character of the movement.

For the SP One Pavée, the architecture remains unchanged, but the treatment of the exterior is more precious. The case is made of 18K white gold and set with 255 diamonds weighing a total of 1.608 carats.

Rather than applying the stones uniformly across the watch, the setting follows the contours of the case, the amphitheatre-shaped flange, the crown and the buckle.

The inclined dial receives a new dark blue PVD finish in place of the black surface used on the earlier SP One versions. 

This darker tone provides a different backdrop for the suspended movement while maintaining the restrained visual relationship between the dial and the surrounding case.

The 38 mm case retains the pebble-like form of the original SP One.

Its bezel-free construction allows the sapphire crystal to flow visually into the case, while the lugs are integrated into the lower section rather than directly attached to the upper case.
