Moritz Grossmann Perpetual Calendar marks the brand’s 17th anniversary

To celebrate its 17th anniversary, Moritz Grossmann has added a Perpetual Calendar to its collection.

Adopting the high standards of Karl Moritz Grossmann, the 19th-century master watchmaker whose name the company bears, the Saxon brand stands for a combination of classical mechanisms, contemporary style and exceptional craftsmanship.

The new Moritz Grossmann Perpetual Calendar features a symmetrical and well-balanced dial, with all indications arranged for excellent legibility and a harmonious overall appearance.

The date is displayed on a peripheral ring running around the dial, printed with a full scale from 1 to 31. To clearly distinguish the date from the hour and minute hands and keep the dial as uncluttered as possible, a cup-shaped indicator on the outer edge frames the current date.

The month and day of the week are shown on two subsidiary dials positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock. These counters are decorated using a refined azurage technique, as is the small seconds display.

Each subsidiary dial features a small central aperture. One serves as a leap-year indicator — a defining feature of a perpetual calendar, which automatically accounts for leap years and displays February 29 every four years. 

The second aperture is a day–night indicator, helping to associate the time with the calendar displays when setting the watch.

At 12 o’clock, a poetic moon-phase display shows a mother-of-pearl moon moving across a dark night sky dotted with sparkling stars. The moon is set against a goldstone background, illuminated by fine copper crystals.

The Moritz Grossmann Perpetual Calendar is available in three variants, all housed in cases measuring 41 mm in diameter and 13.9 mm in thickness.

Two versions come in rose gold, fitted with slim lance-shaped rose-gold hands. One features a silver argenté dial, while the other is paired with a dark anthracite dial.

The third version is presented in a platinum case with a dial combining argenté and anthracite tones. The hour appliqués are silver-coloured, while the slender hands are made of blued steel to ensure optimal contrast.

Correctors for all calendar indications are discreetly integrated into the case sides. Using the supplied tool, the date, day, month and moon phase can be quickly adjusted and synchronised. 

A further refinement is the sum corrector: if the watch has not been wound for several days, a single press allows the date to be corrected, with the day, month and moon-phase displays advancing automatically.

The newly developed hand-wound Calibre 101.13 can be admired through the large, non-reflective sapphire crystal caseback. Operating at 2.5 Hz (18,000 vibrations per hour), it offers a power reserve of 42 hours.

Based on the modified Calibre 100.1, the movement incorporates a perpetual calendar module comprising 211 individual components, combined with the 190 parts of the base calibre. 

Numerous elements are newly engineered, including a simplified and optimised stopwork, an integrated manual winding system and an escape-wheel bearing integrated into the barrel bridge.
