Alpina Alpiner Extreme Solarmetre: the brand’s first solar-powered watch

Alpina introduces the Alpiner Extreme Solarmetre, its first solar-powered watch, combining robustness with Swiss solar quartz technology. Price €995

 Alpina unveiled the Alpiner Extreme Solarmetre, the brand’s first solar-powered watch.

Powered by a solar quartz calibre, this new model delivers impressive autonomy. As the dial is exposed to natural or artificial light, the battery is continuously recharged. 

When fully charged, it can withstand up to 10 consecutive months of complete darkness. Once re-exposed to light, just 10 seconds are enough to restart the movement.

One minute of light exposure provides sufficient energy to power the watch for an entire day. With the crown pulled out, autonomy can be extended to up to four years.

Specially developed to integrate solar technology, this latest addition to the flagship Alpiner Extreme collection underlines Alpina’s commitment to sustainable energy, in line with the brand’s long-standing respect for untamed nature.

Thanks to its compact dimensions, measuring 37.5 mm in diameter and 10.19 mm in thickness, the Alpiner Extreme Solarmetre is equally well suited to both men and women.

The new model is available in five stainless steel versions. Deep burgundy and mint green dials are paired with a steel bracelet. 

Three additional variants, light blue, navy blue and frost white, are presented on a textured rubber strap featuring Alpina’s signature triangular pattern.

Water resistant to 10 ATM, corresponding to 100 metres or 330 feet, and designed for outdoor use, the Alpiner case houses the AL-140 movement, developed by Swiss manufacturer La Joux-Perret exclusively for Alpina.

This calibre is engineered across three primary layers. At the surface, the dial preserves Alpina’s familiar identity. 

While it appears opaque, it is subtly translucent, allowing light to reach the newly developed photovoltaic cells beneath. 

Thanks to their high efficiency, the technology remains visually unobtrusive, safeguarding the brand’s traditional aesthetic. 

Beneath the dial lies the movement itself, where a smart integrated circuit manages energy flow, charging the battery while simultaneously powering the magnetic rotor that drives the timekeeping functions.

The Alpina symbol is framed by a subtle blue trim, a signature detail of the brand’s solar-powered timepieces. 

The dial surface is decorated with a fine triangular pattern referencing Alpina’s historic emblem. 

A date window is positioned at 3 o’clock, while applied indexes and luminescent hands ensure clear legibility in all lighting conditions. 

Completing the composition, the seconds hand carries the classic upside-down triangle at its tip, rendered in blue.
