Baume & Mercier Clifton Baumatic 34 mm: a new case for the Manufacture movement

Baume & Mercier extends its Clifton Baumatic line with two new models featuring, for the first time, a 34 mm case size. These timepieces bring the brand’s proprietary Baumatic movement to a diameter traditionally associated with women’s watches, while remaining equally suited to collectors who appreciate more compact dimensions.

Until now, the Clifton Baumatic was available in sizes starting from 39 mm. This move reflects the Maison’s long-standing philosophy of offering the same standards of technical and aesthetic excellence to both men and women—a principle dating back to Paul Mercier, who, since co-founding the company in 1918, consistently combined elegance and performance in creations designed for both female and male audiences.

The case of the new models is crafted in stainless steel with alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. It measures 34 mm in diameter and 10.5 mm in thickness, protected by a domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment.

Other design elements include a discreetly integrated crown, a vintage-inspired dial layout with a central crosshair (a distinctive feature of Baumatic-powered timepieces), an Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock, and a date aperture at 6 o’clock. The minute track is expressed through a delicate pearled scale.

The first reference, the Clifton Baumatic M0A10831, features an écru dial with grainé texture along with applied trapezoidal indexes and alpha hands in 5N gold tone. It is paired with a taupe alligator leather strap with curved spring bars and a steel pin buckle.

The second version, the Clifton Baumatic M0A10833, is distinguished by a gradient blue lacquered dial, lighter at the centre and darker towards the periphery, with applied trapezoidal indexes and alpha hands in rhodium finish. A blue alligator leather strap, also with curved spring bars and steel pin buckle, completes the ensemble.

For the first time in this size, the watches are powered by the Baumatic BM13-1975A automatic calibre, visible through a transparent sapphire caseback. 

Developed and produced by the Manufacture, this movement is resistant to everyday magnetic fields up to 1,500 Gauss, operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and offers a remarkable power reserve of 120 hours (five days).

The finishing includes bridges decorated with perlage, a sandblasted and snailed plate, and an openworked oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and snailed details. Water resistance is rated at 5 ATM (50 metres / 165 feet).

The new Clifton Baumatic 34 mm models in stainless steel have a suggested retail price of €3,550. Like all Baumatic models, these timepieces benefit from an extended warranty of six years in addition to the standard two years, upon online registration. baume-et-mercier.com
