Review: MeisterSinger Primatic

A specialist in the creation of timepieces which uses a single hand to indicate the time, German watchmaker MeisterSinger often integrates its wristwatches with complications like date, day of the week, moon phase and others.

The Primatic is their latest creation and their first model in the catalogue to offer a useful power reserve indicator.

The watch comes in a robust 41.5 mm stainless steel case whose lines are highlighted by the alternation of satin-brushed and polished surfaces. Finishes, as typical of the brand, are flawless.

The large crown is adorned with an embossed MeisterSinger logo, the musical notation for a pause, a symbol that the founder of the brand, Manfred Brassler, chose to suggest a more relaxed way to consider the passing of time. Water resistance is guaranteed up to a pressure of 5 ATM (50 metres / 165 feet).

The Primatic is offered in four variations: two versions with matte dials - black (ref. PR902) or ivory (ref. PR903) - and two with sun-brushed dials in medium blue (ref. PR918) and petrol green (ref. PR919). For our review we used the petrol green version.

Matched to a vintage black leather strap with steel buckle, the watch sits comfortably on the wrist and offers a striking look that we really liked.

To indicate the time of the day, the needle-sharp central hand sweeps over the 12 hours divided by 144 markers, each representing 5 minutes.

In addition to this large hand, the Primatic also features a smaller needle hand that shows the amount of power remaining in the barrel, just like a vehicle fuel gauge shows how full the “tank” is at any time.

When the hand reaches the left side of the scale with red markers, it’s time to wind the movement by turning the crown back and forth. Of course, since the watch is automatic, the manual winding will not be needed when the watch is worn daily.

Protected by a domed sapphire crystal, the dial is completed by a date circle at 3 o'clock, with the date displayed on white on a black background, and an outer ring indicating the 30-minute intervals.

Readability is excellent thanks to the contrast of the white typography with the shimmering sunburst green background that changes depending on how the light strikes the watch.

When you turn the watch, through the 6-screwed glass exhibition back you can appreciate the self-winding Sellita SW270 calibre with its rotor engraved with the logo of the brand.

Beating at the frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this sturdy and reliable movement has an autonomy of 38 hours.
