Moritz Grossmann launched the new Date Turquoise with a guilloché dial in a turquoise colour. The price of the ref. MG-003406 is €42,500
Moritz Grossmann launched a new Date model in a fresh interpretation characterised by a guilloché dial in a trendy turquoise colour.
The special dial of the Date Turquoise was created in collaboration with dial manufactory Comblémine by Kari Voutilainen in Switzerland's Val-de-Travers. Its intricate patterns are obtained by chiseling a smooth metallic plate with extreme precision and care using a guilloché machine.
The extremely fine grooves are polished to a high gloss using a diamond, giving rise to fascinating reflections of light.
The minute scale has been moved slightly inwards, creating space for the complete date scale from 1 to 31. The dial numerals in blue contrast sharply with the light background. The hours and minutes are impressed onto a silver ring in dot form. The lance-shaped hands of the Date Turquoise are handcrafted and finished in the manufactory and then annealed in blue to match the circumferential date scale. The blued bracket-shaped date marker is also elaborately crafted by hand.
The new look is completed by a 41 mm x 11.85 mm case made from polished stainless steel, a first for the Date model.
To correct the date there is a separate setting crown at 10 o’clock. This crown is not active in the normal position, thus preventing accidental adjustment. To adjust the date, the crown has to be pulled out. The movement carries on running and the date can be changed by turning the crown in either direction.
The sapphire crystal case back displays the manufacture Calibre 100.3 making it possible to appreciate its Grossmann balance, the ratchet wheel with 3-band snailing and the hand-engraved cantilevered balance cock with regulator arm and Grossmann micrometer screw.
The screws have been annealed by hand in violet to stand out against the German silver, steel and gold shades.
Beating at 18,000 vibrations per hours, this hand-wound movement has an autonomy of 42 hours when fully wound.
The jumping date mechanism is a complex ensemble of parts that are integrated in the main plate on the dial side.
The watch features the distinctive Grossmann winder with pusher, a refined hand setting mechanism that eliminates the ingress of particles into the case while the hands are being set as well as the unintentional alteration of the hand positions while the crown is being pushed home again.
In fact, when the user pulls the winding crown out, the winder switches to the hand setting mode and simultaneously stops the movement. The crown immediately returns to its home position but can now be turned to precisely set the hands. Once ready, the movement can be restarted by pressing the push button at 4 o’clock so avoiding the possibility to alter the positions of the hands. At the same time, the mechanism switches back to the winding mode.
Completed by a fine hand-sewn strap made from black alligator leather, the new Moritz Grossmann Date Turquoise (reference MG-003406) is a limited edition of 18 pieces with a price of Euro 42,500. grossmann-uhren.com
