Identified by the initials "SW", the sporty watch of Jaquet Droz is indeed a distinctive one. It retains the signature dial layout of the iconic Grande Seconde while adding edgy design elements that contribute to its bold character.
The latest addition in the SW Collection is the SW Steel-Ceramic, a timepiece that stands out for the contrast between black and red.
The red hand-edged fabric strap ties in with the Grande Seconde's stroke at 6 o'clock, the tip of the hollowed hour and minute hands, and the quarter hour marks. The three hands are treated with Super-LumiNova.
The two sub-dials combine Roman and Arabic numerals and intersect to create the figure 8, the symbol of Jaquet Droz. Where they intersect, the red 5, 6 and 7 are written in Arabic numerals while the other hour markers appear in Roman.
The 45 mm steel case is covered with a black ceramic bezel that is inalterable and scratch-proof. Protected by a rubber cast for enhanced handling, the crown is screwed down in order to guarantee water-resistance up to a pressure of 5 bar (50 meters /165 feet). Two large claws safeguard it from shocks. On the other side of the crossbridge, a symmetrical element is used to achieve visual balance and further protect the case. The hollowed lugs enhance the sporty look.
The transparent sapphire crystal caseback reveals the JD2663A-S self-winding calibre and its white gold openworked oscillating weight. Beating at the frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), this sophisticated manufacture movement delivers 68 hours of power reserve thanks to its efficient double barrel. The surfaces are polished or satin-finished and decorated with Côtes de Genève.
