Atelier Wen has partnered with New York-based creative studio Massena LAB to introduce the Inflection Shuò, an exclusive 50-piece limited edition.
Defined by an 18k solid gold dial embellished with hand-executed tremblage, the timepiece pairs Atelier Wen’s Sino-French aesthetic and modern Chinese artisanry with Massena LAB’s distinctive horological lens.
Housed in a 99.9% pure tantalum case with an integrated tantalum bracelet, the 50-piece release is split into two dial variants: 10 pieces featuring a solid white-gold dial plate and hour sector reserved for established clients, and 40 pieces featuring a white-gold dial plate with a contrast rose-gold hour sector open to the general public.
The title "Shuò" derives from the Chinese character 烁, meaning sparkling, glittering, or radiant—a direct reference to the light-reflecting quality of hand tremblage.
Crafted by GT Cadrans in Lonay, Switzerland, with engraving executed by specialist Coralie Mercier, the 18k solid gold dial base plate undergoes an arduous hand-finishing process where a graver is pushed across the oscillating metal surface to form thousands of tiny micro-facets.
Over this textured plate sits a radially brushed hour sector ring that reinterprets the classic California dial layout, combining custom serif Arabic numerals from 10 to 2 with hand-calligraphed Chinese numerals from 4 to 8 commissioned by Atelier Wen.
The outer sector is decorated with additional tremblage and framed by a finely hand-engraved huiwen border, a traditional Chinese motif.
The two dial executions offer distinct precious-metal compositions. The 10-piece client-exclusive edition features a dial constructed with 14.66 grams of 18k white gold across both the base plate and hour sector.
The 40-piece public edition uses 14.59 grams of white gold for its base plate paired with a 5N rose-gold hour sector.
Both variants feature blue-filled numerals, blued tri-planed rhodium-plated leaf hands with frosted centerlines and concave polished edges, a blue "Atelier Wen" signature at 12 o'clock, and a subtle white-gold "Massena" marking near 6 o'clock.
Contrasting with the warm gold dials, the watches are encased in cold-toned 99.9% pure tantalum measuring 40 mm in diameter, 10.2 mm in thickness including the crystal, and 45 mm lug-to-lug.
Known for its extreme density, anti-corrosive properties, and intense machining difficulty, the metal is formed into an all-curved architectural profile inspired by Chinese structural forms, featuring virtually no flat planes.
A concave bezel and ridged midcase frame double-domed sapphire crystals on both sides, each treated with five layers of anti-reflective coating.
Water resistance is rated to 100 meters (10 bar / 330 feet), secured by a screw-down crown executed in tantalum on the white-gold dial variant and solid rose gold on the rose-gold dial edition.
The integrated bracelet is also constructed from 99.9% pure tantalum, tapering from 22 mm at the case to 18 mm at the clasp. External links feature strong vertical brushing, middle links are mirror-polished, and the chamfers throughout are given a concave mirror-polished finish.
The bracelet incorporates a telescopic deployant blade, a quick-release spring-bar system, and a patent-pending on-the-fly micro-adjustment mechanism offering four adjustment positions.
Visible through the sapphire exhibition back is the self-winding, customized Girard-Perregaux Calibre GP03300.
Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with 27 jewels and a 48-hour power reserve, the movement features sweeping, custom-shaped bridges designed to mimic wind and water motifs from historical Chinese paintings.
The ruthenium-plated dark grey bridges display sharp hand-polished exterior anglage and laser-etched radial wavy côtes, set against black-polished screws and a custom wind-inspired rotor plated in 5N rose gold.
Adjusted to five positions and temperature, the movement also includes a hacking seconds mechanism.
The Atelier Wen x Massena LAB Inflection Shuò is priced at CHF 33,800 (excluding taxes). Inquiries and orders open on August 26, 2026, via the official Atelier Wen and Massena LAB websites, with small-batch deliveries scheduled to begin in early 2027.
