Seiko marks 145th Anniversary with Edo Purple Limited Editions

Seiko marks its 145th anniversary with a suite of limited-edition releases inspired by "Edo purple"—a traditional shade reflecting Tokyo's heritage.

To celebrate its 145th anniversary, Seiko has created a collection of limited-edition timepieces united by a design motif inspired by Edo purple, a distinctive shade associated with Japan’s Edo period (1603–1868).

Combined with gold-coloured accents, the historic hue defines the commemorative models while recalling Seiko’s founding principle of remaining “always one step ahead of the rest”.

Seiko Alpinist HBC006

The anniversary collection spans the Prospex, Astron, Presage, Seiko 5 Sports and Seiko Selection lines, bringing the colour theme to six different watches with distinct technical and stylistic identities.

Leading the Prospex releases is the new Alpinist, reference HBC006, which draws on the aesthetic elements of the original 1959 Laurel Alpinist.

Its 39.5 mm stainless steel case, 12.7 mm thick and protected by a super-hard coating, features a screw-down crown, see-through screw case back and 20 bar water resistance.

The purple dial combines wedge-shaped indexes and Arabic numerals with gold-coloured accents, while an inner rotating compass ring sits beneath a sapphire crystal with date magnifier.

The automatic Calibre 6R55 operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a 72-hour power reserve, together with magnetic resistance to 4,800 A/m.

A leather strap from LWG-certified tanneries, finished with purple stitching and a three-fold clasp, completes the watch. Production is limited to 7,000 pieces, priced at €980.

The Prospex collection also includes the solar-powered Speedtimer chronograph, reference HBJ005, inspired by Seiko’s timing instruments of the 1960s and 1970s. Its 41.4 mm stainless steel case measures 13.0 mm in thickness and houses a curved sapphire crystal with inner anti-reflective coating.

Purple accents extend across the dial and aluminium tachymeter bezel insert. Water resistance is rated to 10 bar.

The solar Calibre V192 powers the chronograph, 24-hour display and power-reserve indicator, while providing magnetic resistance to 4,800 A/m.

The watch is fitted with a stainless steel bracelet and push-button three-fold clasp. It is limited to 8,000 pieces and priced at €790.

The high-technology side of the collection is represented by the Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph, reference HAB011. Its 43.3 mm, 13.4 mm thick case and integrated bracelet are made from lightweight titanium with a super-hard coating, complemented by ceramic bracelet links and a two-part ceramic and titanium bezel. The watch offers 10 bar water resistance, magnetic resistance to 4,800 A/m and an easy-adjust clasp.

Its purple dial features a vertical gradient and horizontal lines of varying widths inspired by the sky at dusk, with Lumibrite on the hands and indexes beneath a dual-curved sapphire crystal with super-clear coating.

The GPS Solar Calibre 5X83 provides world time across 38 time zones, high-speed time-zone adjustment, automatic daylight-saving adjustment, a perpetual calendar to 2100 and chronograph functions, including a 1/20-second counter and 12-hour subdial. Limited to 2,000 pieces, the Astron is priced at €3,000.

Taking a more formal direction, the Presage Cocktail Time GMT, reference HCB006, draws inspiration from the “Edo Murasaki” cocktail created by master bartender Hisashi Kishi of Tokyo’s STAR BAR.

Its deep purple dial combines a translucent finish, radial texturing and gold-coloured highlights, complemented by an independent gold-tone GMT hand.

The 40.5 mm stainless steel case measures 12.8 mm in thickness and houses a box-shaped Hardlex crystal and see-through screw case back, with water resistance rated to 5 bar. The automatic Calibre 4R34 has 24 jewels, operates at 3 Hz and provides a 41-hour power reserve. A stainless steel bracelet with deployment clasp completes the watch, which is limited to 6,000 pieces and priced at €620.

The sports segment is represented by the Seiko 5 Sports SKX Series, reference HDB003. Its 42.5 mm stainless steel case measures 13.9 mm in thickness and surrounds a deep purple dial with vertically striated indexes, Lumibrite and gold-coloured accents.

A curved Hardlex crystal and glossy Hardlex bezel insert frame the dial, while the transparent screw case back reveals the automatic Calibre 4R36, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 41-hour power reserve.

Water resistance is rated to 10 bar, with magnetic resistance to 4,800 A/m. The watch comes on a stainless steel bracelet with a secure-lock three-fold clasp and is limited to 9,999 pieces, priced at €450.

Completing the collection is the digital Seiko Selection model, reference HFL001, which reinterprets the 1982 “Rotocall” archive model. Its 37.0 mm, 10.6 mm thick case is made from black hard-coated stainless steel and retains the distinctive rotary-switch control interface, rendered here in Edo purple alongside gold-coloured function indicators and logos.

The quartz Calibre A824 provides timekeeping, alarm, timer and stopwatch functions, with an accuracy of ±20 seconds per month. A matching black-coated stainless steel bracelet and 10 bar water resistance complete the design. Limited to 4,000 pieces, the model is priced at €670.

All six models feature dedicated “LIMITED EDITION” engravings on their case backs and are scheduled to become available in October 2026 through Seiko Boutiques and authorised retailers worldwide. seikowatches.com
