Our hands-on review of the new Nomos Ahoi neomatik 38 date models with new golden sands and sky blue dials. Prices start from €3,520

In July, Nomos Glashütte unveiled two new Ahoi neomatik 38 date models, distinguished by the unique colours of their dials: one in a radiant golden sands hue and the other in a clear sky blue shade.

Following our introductory article, we had the opportunity to spend some time with them and we are now delighted to share our pictures and impressions.

Both models feature the typical case of the Ahoi series, whose name is a reference to the Ahoy signal word used by people in boats to attract attention.

Crafted from stainless steel and enhanced by a polished finish, this round case presents two guards that protect the  crown from impacts. With a diameter of 38.5 mm, its size is ideal for most wrists (the wrist in our photographs is 18 cm / 7 in). And, at a height of 9.9 mm, the watch is thin enough to slip under a shirt cuff.

The screw-down ensures waterproofness up to a pressure of 20 ATM (200 metres / 660 feet) and makes the watch suitable for diving. An evident red crown stem warns when the crown is not fully screwed down.

Protected by sapphire crystals with anti-reflective anti-reflective treatment inside and outside, the new dials offer an optimal contrast to the black indexes/numerals, the green-luminescent hour markers on the outer ring, and the rhodium-plated hands.

Thanks to the use of white Super-LumiNova coating that glows in green in the dark, readability is excellent even in low-light environments.

The orange seconds hand of the snailed small seconds sub-dial at 6 o'clock adds a vibrant touch to the ensemble. As its name suggests, this reference also features a date display, positioned just below the small seconds.

The "neomatik" inscription appearing just below the logo of the brand is used to identify the models driven by Nomos’ in-house ultra-thin neomatik movements.

In this case, the movement of choice is the Nomos neomatik DUW 6101 calibre, a 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) automatic movement offering 42 hours of power reserve and equipped with a stop-seconds mechanism and a date indicator.

Through the transparent sapphire crystal case back fixed with six screws, it is possible to appreciate three-quarter plate architecture, ribbing polish, thermally-blued screws as well as the tempered blue balance spring denoting the proprietary swing system adjusted according to chronometer standards. The bidirectional winding rotor is enriched by gold-plated embossing.

As an an alternative to the sapphire crystal caseback, Nomos Glashütte  offers the option to choose a solid stainless steel back, ideal for engravings.

The watches are equipped with high-quality waterproof textile straps in blue-black or dark gray. A number of strap/bracelet options are optionally available. The lug width measures 20 mm.

The Nomos Glashütte Ahoi neomatik 38 date with solid back (sky blue ref. 516 or golden sands ref. 517) is priced at Euro 3,520 while the versions with sapphire crystal back featured in our review (sky blue ref. 526 or golden sands ref. 527) retail at Euro 3,820.

With the Ahoi neomatik 38 date, Nomos Glashütte has delivered a versatile timepiece that blends simplicity with sophistication. The high-quality finishes and flawless craftsmanship are immediately apparent, and the presence of a manufacture movement underscores the brand's commitment to horological excellence. Whether you opt for the golden sands or the sky blue colour, this model offers a distinctive and contemporary style at a very competitive price. nomos-glashuette.com

  1. That is a low power reserve for a 3hz movement. Guess there are compromises to get it this thin.
