Cyrus presents the Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire which allows a complete view of the movement. Price CHF 245,000.
Following the release of the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon in 2018 and the Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon in 2019, Cyrus is now unveiling the latest interpretation of this exceptional creation, the Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire which allows a complete view of the movement from all angles thanks to a transparent sapphire crystal case.
The hand-wound movement that drives the watch is characterised by a tourbillon cage placed in the middle of the dial and set on a vertical axis at a 90° angle.
As Cyrus' studies demonstrated, by positioning the tourbillon cage at a 90° angle with respect to the dial (i.e. perpendicular to the dial), the tourbillon remains vertical for most of the time over the course of 24 hours. At this angle, the cage containing the regulating organ — composed by balance wheel, escapement and pallet fork — offsets the negative effects of gravity more effectively, thus improving the accuracy of the watch. Crafted from steel, this tourbillon cage is made of 52 parts and has a total weight of just 0.706 grams.
The spectacular sapphire crystal case makes it possible to admire the movement and the open-worked dial in all its details. The manufacturing of such a complex sapphire crystal case requires the use of small tools, which generate very long machining. The polishing operations are also extremely time-consuming: many hours of work are needed to obtain perfectly polished and free-from-defects surfaces.
Water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet, this sculpted cushion-shaped case has a diameter of 44 mm and it is 19.9 mm thick. Composed of 29 parts, it also features the functional 18k 4N rose gold twin-crowns and the 18K 4N gold arch, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s self-supporting bridge, which symmetrically divides the hours and minutes indications.
On the left you can see the the jumping hours and on the right the sweeping minutes that can be read on black microbeaded arches with luminescent Arabic numerals.
The seconds are displayed in the centre on a scale of 5 with small engraved blocks arranged around the tourbillon cage.
At 12 o'clock, the black DLC microbillé sphere - 5 mm in diameter - displays the days of the power reserve (1-4). To visually balance it, the Cyrus logo is positioned at 6 o’clock.
The dial is protected by a highly domed sapphire crystal glass with a thickness of 1.2 mm.
The caseback offers other details of the hand-made CYR625 calibre, revealing the tourbillon, part of the gears, and the two barrels with the black lacquered ratchet-wheels with Cyrus’ signature propeller-like logo. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, the movement offers over 100-hour power reserve.
The sapphire crystal ring which secures the case back with customized screws is engraved with the inscription “10 years CYRUS - Established 2010”. In fact, the release of this exclusive 10-piece edition was originally scheduled for 2020 but delayed to 2021 due to the global pandemic.
Matched to a white rubber strap featuring a new embossed prism pattern and fitted with a 18K 4N gold folding buckle, the Cyrus Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire ref. 539.506.ZG.A has a price of CHF 245,000. cyrus-watches.ch
Spectacular piece. I wouldn't mind with black rubber instead of white. Maybe in a future edition.
