With the new Portugieser Automatic 40, IWC IWC brings back this iconic design to the collection with a new automatic model housed in a compact case diameter of 40 mm. The IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 ref. 3583 has a price of Euro 7,250 in stainless steel or Euro 17,000 in red gold.
Originally introduced in 1939, the Portugieser (or Portuguese) still is the most popular and recognizable IWC wristwatch. Its key design elements were a streamlined dial with Arabic numbers, a very thin bezel contributing to make the watch look even larger, leaf hands and a large sub dial at six o’clock for the seconds (you can read the complete history of this model here).
In 2020, IWC brings back this iconic design to the collection with a new automatic model housed in a compact case diameter of 40 millimetres (the exact measures are 40.4 mm x 12.4 mm).
The new IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 is presented in four versions:
Ref. IW358303
Stainless-steel case, silver-plated dial, gold-plated hands and appliqués, black alligator leather strap.
Ref. IW358304:
Stainless-steel case, silver-plated dial, blue hands and appliqués, black alligator leather strap.
Ref. IW358305:
Stainless-steel case, blue dial, rhodium-plated hands and appliqués, black alligator leather strap.
Ref. IW358306:

Visible through a sapphire-glass back, the self-winding IWC-manufactured 82200 calibre features a Pellaton winding system with components made of virtually non-wearing ceramic. Beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph) which builds up a power reserve of 60 hours.
Completed by alligator leather straps secured to the wrist by a butterfly folding clasp on the stainless-steel models or a pin buckle for the red gold one, the IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 ref. 3583 has a price of Euro 7,250 in stainless steel or Euro 17,000 in red gold. iwc.com

The perfect watch? Can anyone find a fault in it?
ReplyDeleteMaybe the crown too big?
DeleteThe crown is in line with the proportions of the original Portuguese from 1939 so I would definitely not change it.
