TAG Heuer completes the 2019 celebration of the 50th anniversary of its iconic Monaco chronograph with the first Monaco timepiece to feature the brand’s Calibre Heuer 02 Manufacture movement.

This way, for the first time in its half-century history, the Monaco is powered by an in-house manufacture movement, the innovative Calibre Heuer 02 that TAG Heuer launched in 2017. Because of the Monaco’s unique square shape, TAG Heuer’s watchmakers had to re-engineer the interior of the case to house the manufacture calibre.

In addition to this major technical change, the new Monaco Heuer 02 also features a slightly revamped dial, which remains different from the dial of the Calibre 11 Monaco, the model featuring the crown on the left side of the case like the first Monaco model of 1969.

Water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet, the 39 mm x 39 mm stainless-steel case of the Monaco Heuer 02 alternates fine-brushed and polished surfaces with a beveled and slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The radiant blue PVD sunray dial features updated silver opaline counters at 3 and 9 o’clock, eight tri-faceted indexes and a new permanent second indicator above the date at 6 o’clock. Red accents on the central seconds hand and chronograph counter hands enhance the sportiness of this model.

Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal case back, the thin Calibre Heuer 02 beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with a remarkable power reserve of 80 hours.

Matched to a navy alligator leather strap with navy stitching secured to the wrist by a stainless steel folding clasp, the TAG Heuer Monaco Heuer 02 ref. CBL2111.FC6453 has a price of Euro 5,400 / US$ 5,950.
