Review Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. A limited edition of 100 pieces, the new Glashuette Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date with green dial (ref. 1-37-02-04-02-35) is one of our favourite chronographs of 2019. In this price segment, it is very hard to find chronographs, at the same level of quality and prestige, with similar functions and a manufacture movement of impeccable finishes. Prices are Euro 12,500 with strap and Euro 13,700 with steel bracelet.
The new Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date with green dial is one of our favourite chronographs of 2019. Case, dial and strap are perfectly combined together to create an automatic timepiece of great character featuring a flyback chronograph, a large outsize date display (Panorama Date) and a power reserve indicator.
We had the possibility to test it and wear it for several days and our positive impressions have been totally confirmed. We are now pleased to share our report and pictures.
Crafted from stainless steel, the case is 40 mm in diameter and 14.1 mm thick. The size looks ideal for the type of watch making it beautifully stand out on the wrist. The sporty lines are highlighted by its meticulous finish alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces.
On the right, the screwed crown is protected by two guards that nicely harmonise with the two chronograph push buttons while on the upper left side of the case we find the Panorama Date corrector.
Protected by a flat sapphire crystal, the dial is a real eye-catcher. Its green tones are inspired to the colours of the manufactory's surroundings in Saxony’s Ore Mountains, an area dominated by thick forests and green meadows.
The beautiful dégradé effect - the lighter hues at the centre shade gradually into darker nuances at the circumference - is obtained by using rotating brass brushes for the sunray finish and then, in the galvanic department, by applying a green lacquer in several passes. After that, black lacquer is applied at varying angles using a hand-held spray gun, which results in individual colour flows unique to each watch. The lacquer-coated dials are then fired in a kiln to burn in the colour.
Beauty apart, we love how all the indications are efficiently arranged: central stop seconds, 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock, small seconds and power reserve display at 9 o'clock, 12-hour chronograph aperture at 12 o'clock (our favourite detail) and, of course, the signature Panorama Date at 6 o'clock.
Visible through the sapphire crystal case back, the automatic chronograph movement with column wheel and flyback mechanism, Calibre 37-02, beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and offers a power reserve of 70 hours.
