Longines presented a new reinterpretation of a historical timepiece of the brand. Inspired to a military watch produced in 1938 and conserved as part of the Longines historical collection, the Heritage Military 1938 is a special edition limited to 1938 pieces.
The original Longines model produced in 1938
The stainless steel case has a diameter of 43 mm and features details that are typical of the 1930s, like the bevelled bezel and the ribbed "sea urchin"-shaped crown.
A domed anti-reflection sapphire crystal protects and easy-to-read, matte black dial with polished baton-style hands and cream-coloured Arabic numerals that are enhanced by Super-LumiNova coating for better visibility in poor light conditions. Both the dial and the small seconds sub-dial are edged by a railway-track decoration.
The movement of choice is the 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) hand-wound Calibre L507.2 (base ETA 6498/2) that offers 53 hours of power reserve.
Completed by an anthracite leather strap and an additional cognac NATO strap, the new model is water resistant to a pressure of 3 bar (approx 30 metres / 100 feet).
The retail price of the Longines Heritage Military 1938 Ref. L2.822.214.171.124 is Euro 2,360 / US$ 2,450. longines.com
