Cartier Roadster 2026: the return of an icon in new sizes and materials

At Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, Cartier brings back one of its most distinctive designs with the new Roadster, a collection that revisits the original 2002 model while refining its proportions, ergonomics and overall execution.

When it first appeared, the Roadster stood apart for its automotive inspiration, drawing on the language of mechanical bodywork.

Elements such as the tonneau-shaped case, the speedometer-style dial, the conical crown and the characteristic date magnifier evoking a car’s headlight contributed to a design that was both unconventional and immediately recognisable.

The new generation preserves these defining features while introducing a more streamlined and cohesive approach, the result of work carried out by a wide range of métiers within the manufacture, from design to case-making and finishing.

The updated case architecture focuses on balance and integration. The relationship between bezel, case and crown has been reworked to achieve a more fluid profile, while the crystal, magnifier and dial are visually aligned to reinforce the watch’s distinctive shape.

Four rivets positioned on the bezel add a more assertive note without altering the overall coherence.

The dial retains its familiar elements, including Roman numerals, chemin de fer minute track and circular striated pattern, now enhanced by an appliqué-style construction that adds depth.

On steel models, sword-shaped hands with Super-LumiNova improve legibility, particularly on darker blue or anthracite dials.

The dial also retains the 'secret' Cartier signature discreetly integrated into the VII numeral.

The mechanical side follows a similar logic, combining established calibres with updated ergonomics. Large models are powered by the automatic calibre 1847 MC, while medium versions use the calibre 1899 MC.

Both movements reflect Cartier’s current approach to reliable, everyday mechanical watchmaking.

The bracelet has also been redesigned, with shorter links improving comfort and articulation, while alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces emphasise the geometry of the case.

The integration is completed by the QuickSwitch system, allowing the wearer to alternate easily between the metal bracelet and an additional strap supplied with each watch.

The collection is offered in steel, yellow gold, or a combination of the two, and is available in two principal sizes.

The large version measures 47 x 38 mm with a thickness of 10.06 mm and is water-resistant to 100 metres.

It is equipped with the calibre 1847 MC and is available with different dial executions, including a white dial or a dark blue PVD variant, paired with either a metal bracelet or an additional rubber or alligator strap.

The medium size adopts more compact proportions at 42.5 x 34.9 mm with a thickness of 9.7 mm and is powered by the calibre 1899 MC, offering the same water resistance and versatility in terms of materials and straps.

With this relaunch, Cartier brings back the Roadster’s original look but updates the comfort and finish for today.
