IWC unveils Limited Editions Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month

IWC unveils 2 limited editions of its Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month inspired from the Warner Bros movie Aquaman and the lost Kingdom

IWC has unveiled two exclusive editions, each restricted to 25 pieces, of its Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month, a model first introduced in 2019 (details available here).

These two versions draw inspiration from the prop watches featured in Warner Bros. Pictures' "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," as worn on the wrists of the villains Black Manta and Dr. Stephen Shin.

Boasting a diameter of 49 mm and a thickness of 19.4 mm, the imposing cases of the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month, among the largest ever created by IWC, are meticulously crafted from Ceratanium. This performance material combines the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance akin to ceramic.

The black Ceratanium cases are paired with sleek black dials and corresponding rubber straps, whose lug width is 22 mm.

The first version (Ref. IW379405) features red Super-LumiNova accents on the dial, hands, and inner rotating bezel, while the second version (Ref. IW379406) stands out for its blue.

Super-LumiNova, a high-tech ceramic compound blended with luminous pigments, behaves akin to a light storage battery. It utilizes phosphorescence, where the absorption of light energy causes electrons to enter a higher energy state. Upon returning to their normal state, these electrons emit the stored energy as visible light, creating a vivid glow in low-light conditions or underwater.

Water-resistant to 100 meters / 330 feet, the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month is equipped with IWC’s external/internal rotating bezel system for setting dive time, aiding divers in monitoring oxygen levels and preventing rapid ascents. This design combines inner bezel legibility with the external bezel's user-friendly rotation.

The IWC SafeDive system prevents unintentional adjustments to dive time, allowing the outer bezel to move only counterclockwise. Even if accidentally shifted, the dive time remains unchanged, preventing the exceeding of surface return times without required decompression stops.

The IWC-manufactured 89802 caliber powers a perpetual calendar featuring a digital date and month display, alongside a chronograph function.

Rotating discs display the date and month digitally on the dial, ensuring easy and intuitive readability. The perpetual calendar is mechanically programmed to recognize varying month lengths and leap years automatically.

The chronograph function showcases stopped hours and minutes in a combined totalizer at 12 o’clock for enhanced readability.

The double pawl winding system efficiently converts movements of the oscillating mass in both directions into mainspring energy, ensuring a 68-hour power reserve. The technically designed rotor, blackened through a meticulous nickel-plating process, is visible through the transparent sapphire glass case back.
