Maurice Lacroix presented the new Pontos S Diver, the second generation of the diver's watch of the brand. Price is €2,100 in steel, €2,650 in bronze
Maurice Lacroix is unveiling today the new Pontos S Diver, the second generation of the vintage-style diver's watch that the Jura-based brand launched in 2013 (you can read about it here).
The new Pontos S Diver retains the spirit of the inaugural model while incorporating numerous enhancements and updating it to even higher highest standards.
For its development, Maurice Lacroix cooperated with a friend of the brand, Lidija Lijic, a world champion freediver who holds the record for staying underwater for 5 minutes and 43 seconds. Exploring the limits of human performance, Lidija was the ideal person to put the watch through its paces and test the new model deep underwater. In fact, the watch is water resistant up to a pressure of 30 ATM (300 metres / 1,000 feet).
Available in a choice of stainless steel or, for the first time, bronze, the Pontos S Diver comes in a 42 mm case and is equipped with a special crown at 2 o’clock that allows the wearer to adjust the internal rotating bezel.
Featuring a count-up scale, the rotating bezel is a useful way to measure the elapsed time spent underwater. This crown is adorned with a colour-coordinating circlet, ensuring it remains visible when underwater.
The second crown, located at 3 o’clock, can be used to adjust the time and date indications as well as manually wind the movement.
The steel case can be matched to a black grained dial with orange accents (ref. PT6248-SS00L-330-J) or a white lacquered dial with blue accents (ref. PT6248-SS00L-130-4).
The bronze model, limited to just 500 pieces, is paired with a striking blue grained dial (ref. PT6248-BRZ0B-430-4).
The hour and minute hands are facetted, with the minute hand highlighted by a coloured border. Hands and applied indexes are filled with Super-LumiNova for improved legibility in low-light conditions. Subtle changes to the original dial design include making the indexes and minute markings crisper and more prominent.
The indications are completed by a date aperture at 6 o'clock.
The solid caseback is adorned with ‘Vagues du Jura’ motif and the brand’s ‘M’ logo. Behind it, the self-winding ML115 calibre, developed in cooperation with Sellita, one of the largest manufacturer of Swiss mechanical watch movements, beats reliably at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and guarantees a power reserve of 38 hours.
The bronze version comes supplied with two straps, one in vintage dark blue leather, incorporating the company’s M-logo, and a second in dark blue rubber embossed with ‘Maurice Lacroix’.
For the launch, the steel models are supplied with three colour-coordinating straps: an M-branded fabric strap and two rubber straps incorporating Maurice Lacroix branding, presented in relief.
Thanks to the proprietary EasyChange system, it is possible to swap the straps quickly and without the need for any tools.
The new Pontos S Diver by Maurice Lacroix Maurice Lacroix has a retail price of CHF 1,990 / Euro 2,100 in stainless steel or CHF 2,530 / Euro 2,650 in bronze. mauricelacroix.com
