MeisterSinger presented the Edition Singularis Enamel, a special edition of its hand-wound Singularis featuring a dial made of enamel. price €6,490
MeisterSinger presented a special edition of its Singularis, the second generation of MeisterSinger watches to be powered by the watchmaker’s proprietary calibers (we wrote about it here).
Limited to just 20 pieces, the Edition Singularis Enamel features a precious dial made of enamel.
The result of a specialised craft that requires great dexterity as well as rigour and patience, each enamel dial guarantees exceptional qualities, such as the unalterable intensity of its hue over time as well as a unique glossy appearance. Only few experienced and skilled artisans are capable to fully master this age-old process that has been applied to horology since the Renaissance remaining virtually unchanged over time.
In order to create an enamel dial like this, various work processes have to be repeated over a period of several days. A sophisticated mixture of glass-forming silicates and oxides is ground into a fine powder in a mortar. The enamel dust is then applied to the prepared copper dial using a fine screen. The dial is initially fired at around 800°C in a special furnace and then needs to cool down slowly. After cooling, the dial is dried and cleaned and the process is repeated for a second and a third time, until the dial has attained its unique glowing texture.
The reverse side also needs to be similarly treated and fired several times to prevent the enamel from warping and cracking on the dial side due to excessive stress. To achieve a perfect result, extreme cleanliness and the absence of dust are crucial throughout the entire procedure. Only a few of the painstakingly crafted dials are considered when finally assembling the watch. At this point, the numerals and the other indications can be transferred on the enamel surface of the dial.
The glossy, ivory-coloured enamel dial with fine serif typeface and blue highlights are reminiscent of the style of early pocket watches from an era when people still kept their timepieces on a chain.
The single hand, which is also blued by heat in an elaborate process, rotates around the dial pointing to the fine, five-minute markers on the edge of the dial. Reading the time is easy and even fun once you get accustomed to the concept of a single hand sweeping over the 12 hours divided by 144 markers.
Crafted from stainless steel, the 43 mm case of the Edition Singularis Enamel is water-resistant up to 5 bar, and fitted with a domed sapphire crystal.
The 6 screws sapphire crystal caseback provides a view of MeisterSinger’s MSH01 hand-wound movement whose twin mainspring barrels provide a remarkable power reserve of 120 hours, or 5 days, when fully wound.
Characterised by its unique design of the main bridge, this 4 Hz (28,800 vibration per hour) movement is beautifully finished with circular polishing, mirror-polished bevels, blued screws and engravings in gold.
The MeisterSinger Edition Singularis Enamel ref. ED-SIN903 has a price of Euro 6,490. meistersinger.com
