Omega launched the Speedmaster Chronoscope, a new collection that is part of the Speedmaster family. Prices starting from €8,400 for the steel version
Omega is launching the Speedmaster Chronoscope, a new collection that is part of the large Speedmaster family. Six models in stainless steel and one in bronze gold have been unveiled today.
The word Chronoscope is derived from Greek roots (“Chronos” = time and “Scope” = observe) and put the emphasis on the capability of this timepiece to perform various measurements based on the passing of time.
The Speedmaster Chronoscope Co‑Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph (its complete name) comes in a 43 mm case equipped with an anodized aluminium bezel ring with a tachymeter scale. It is water resistant up to a pressure of 5 bar (50 metres / 165 feet).
Protected by a scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal with anti‑reflective treatment on both sides, the two-counter dial pays tribute to Omega’s past, with a detailed “snail” design that featured on the brand’s chronograph wristwatches from the 1940’s. Each dial reveals three timing scales: a Tachymeter scale for measuring speed or distance, a Telemeter scale for measuring the distance from something that is audible or visible, such as a lightning storm, and a Pulsometer scale to measure a person’s heartbeat.
The leaf-shaped hands and the “spiral” track pattern that runs beneath the Arabic numerals further contribute to the vintage look of the timepiece.
The models in polished-brushed stainless steel are available with silvery dials and blued hands, blue dials and rhodium-plated hands, and silvery dials with black subdials and blackened hands.
They can be matched to blue, brown or black leather straps or to a polished-brushed steel bracelet with Omega’s patented comfort release system, adjustable to two positions. Sizing is 21 mm between the lugs - 16 mm on the buckle.
A seventh model is crafted from Bronze Gold, a special alloy enriched with noble elements such as 37.5% gold as well as palladium and silver. Characterised by a soft pink hue, it also offers excellent corrosion resistance.
Perfectly matching the brown of the ceramic bezel ring, the oxidized bronze dial has a special patina finish and opaline silvery subdials.
The brown leather strap is secured to the wrist by a polished-sandblasted Bronze Gold buckle.
The transparent sapphire crystal caseback displays the hand-wound Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9908 featuring a bridge that was expressly designed for the Chronoscope.
Decorated with Geneva waves in arabesque start from the balance wheel instead of the centre of the movement, the movement beats at the frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and delivers a power reserve of 60 hours thanks to its twin barrels with anti-wear Diamond-Like-Carbon coating.
The silicon Si14 balance spring makes it possible to guarantee resistance to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss. The entire watch is certified as a Master Chronometer – the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic-resistance in the Swiss watch industry.
The steel versions of the Omega Speedmaster Chronoscope retails at Euro 8,400 with strap or Euro 8,700 with steel bracelet. The bronze gold version has a price of Euro 14,100. omegawatches.com
