At the upcoming Watches&Wonders 2015 event (Hong Kong, 30 September - 3 October 2015), Piaget will introduce the Emperador Coussin XL Lune Astronomique.
This new artistic creation is a prelude to the new Haute Horlogerie Secrets & Lights collection, a total of 38 timepieces inspired to the historical Silk Route and its important role in connecting the West and the East and two cities in particular: Venice and Samarkand.
The Emperador Coussin XL Lune Astronomique features a precious dial, depicting the regions connected by the Silk Route, crafted using the champlevé enamel technique with miniature enamel-painted details. The windrose nautical compass motif on the dial is a tribute to world travellers.
The astronomical moon is positioned at 6 o'clock on the dial and displays the moon phases in a large aperture of 12 mm. Controlled by an extremely fine gear train, it will lose or gain only one day in 122 years.
A wheel of 135 teeth drives the rotation of the moon mask which hides and reveals a second disc symbolising the moon.
The 46.5 mm rose gold case houses the Piaget 860P automatic movement, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and featuring a double barrel which guarantees a power reserve of 72 hours. The finishes are in line with traditional haute horlogerie: beveled bridges, blued screws, circular Côtes de Genève and circular-grained mainplate. The oscillating weight is engraved with the Piaget coat of arms.
