Roger Dubuis reveals Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph

Roger Dubuis has released the new Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph ref. DBEX1138, a motorsport-inspired chronograph featuring an integrated movement with vertical clutch and column wheel.

Housed in a 45 mm x 17.13 mm case combining pink gold and black DLC titanium with skeletonised pushers, the self-winding RD780SQ calibre is enhanced by the patent-pending Second Braking System (SBS), integrated into the movement’s vertical clutch mechanism. This solution adds stability to the chronograph seconds hand and reduces flickering.

Another distinctive element is the column wheel, which manages the chronograph’s start, stop, and reset functions. 

Positioned at 6 o’clock and displayed on the dial side, it not only enriches the visual appeal of the watch but also improves the feel of the pushers, making their operation more fluid and responsive.

At 3 o’clock, the 120° Rotating Minute Counter (RMC) is crafted in an isotoxal shape. This counter presents a patent-pending display featuring the digits 0, 1, and 2. As its tripartite hands rotate, they move past the 0–9 digits on the right, with oversized red numerals ensuring clear legibility. Once activated, the RMC creates a distinctive visual effect.

At 9 o’clock, the tilted balance wheel is set at a 12° angle, providing optimal visibility for the wearer while delivering the same inertia as a tourbillon. 

Its performance is further enhanced by diamond-coated silicon escapement components, which contribute anti-magnetic properties.

Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the chronograph movement offers a power reserve of 72 hours.

The watch meets the standards of the prestigious Poinçon de Genève. To obtain this hallmark, all 333 components are meticulously decorated using 16 distinct finishing techniques (learn more about the Hallmark of Geneva here).

Connecting the watch to its motorsport inspiration, the caseback rotor is shaped with five arms reminiscent of a supercar’s rims, emphasised by Roger Dubuis’ signature sharp lines.

Paired with a black rubber strap equipped with a Quick Release system and water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet, the new Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Flyback Chronograph ref.
