Hublot re-engineers the Big Bang MECA-10 into a streamlined 42mm case

Hublot brings back the Big Bang MECA-10 with an optimised calibre housed in a more compact 42 mm case, available in King Gold, Titanium, and Frosted Carbon.

Originally launched in 2016 in a larger 45 mm case (read about the Magic Gold version here), the Big Bang MECA-10 stands out with its Meccano-inspired construction, showcasing the layered, interconnected components of the HUB1205 hand-wound skeleton movement.

The new MECA-10 has undergone numerous evolutions, with its updated architecture consisting of three linear bridges attached to a ring-shaped base plate.

These bridges are finished with satin-brushed surfaces and hand-polished bevels, highlighting Hublot’s dedication to haute horlogerie in this avant-garde movement.

Each version—King Gold, Titanium, and Frosted Carbon—features a galvanically coloured movement, harmonising with the case materials in matching 5N gold, metallic grey, and black tones.

As its name suggests, the Big Bang MECA-10 delivers an impressive 10-day power reserve with a unique digital display indicating the remaining days of autonomy.

Powered by two mainspring barrels, this distinctive feature is driven by a rare “crémaillère” rack system, where a linear gear engages a circular one to create straight-line movement.

The mechanism features two overlapping disks rotating in opposite directions, connected by a spiral spring coiled at their centre, resembling a barrel spring.

The balance wheel, positioned on the dial side of the movement and operating at 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour), is fully visible. It not only provides continuous animation to the display but also highlights Hublot’s patented fine adjustment mechanism.

The regulating organ incorporates a lubricant-free, paramagnetic silicon escape wheel, and for precise time-setting, the Big Bang MECA-10 features a hacking seconds mechanism.

The 42 mm x 13.9 mm case, now with more ergonomic proportions, retains the signature Big Bang design and offers water resistance up to 10 ATM (100 metres / 330 feet).

The King Gold and Titanium versions feature satin-brushed surfaces with polished edges, characteristic of the Big Bang line. The Frosted Carbon version, the first of its kind to join the core collection, features a unique material with no fixed pattern, making each piece visually distinct.

While the Titanium and King Gold versions are paired with black lined rubber straps, The Frosted Carbon model comes on a black Velcro strap that complements the bold appearance of the case.
