Richard Mille has announced the release of the RM 032 Automatic Flyback Chronograph Ultimate Edition, a highly technical timepiece designed to withstand pressures of up to 30 bar (300 metres / 1,000 feet), meeting the ISO 6425 standard for diving watches.

As the name implies, this is the final model in the RM 032 collection, which debuted in 2011 and has included various iterations, such as the recent RM 032 Les Voiles de St Barth.

The RM 032 Ultimate Edition has been designed with a focus on security and readability and includes a comprehensive set of features: hours, minutes, seconds, a 12-hour totaliser, flyback chronograph functions, and an annual calendar with an oversize date and a month indicator.

Measuring 50.00 mm x 17.80 mm the imposing tripartite case with integrated lugs is made of lightweight yet exceptionally robust materials such as Grade 5 titanium for the case structure and Carbon TPT inserts.

The unidirectional rotating bezel, crafted from microblasted DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) Grade 5 titanium, is complemented by two upper-bezels made from Carbon TPT and secured with star-shaped screws.

By using the pusher between 4 and 5 o’clock, the running chronograph can be reset without first having to stop the mechanism. 

This flyback function was originally developed for pilots in order not to waste time (and therefore accuracy) from stopping, resetting and starting the chronograph while crossing a navigational point.

The crown and pushers can be locked by simply rotating a ring on the crown (green for unlocked, red for locked). The movement is thus protected from damage due to excessive pressure or shocks to the crown.

The semi-instantaneous oversize date display is placed in an outlined horizontal aperture under 12 o’clock. 

The digits are composed of two DLC titanium discs, with the numbers cut out in silhouette like inverse stencils.

Between 4 and 5 o’clock, we find the semi-instantaneous display of the month, indicated by Arabic numerals. It automatically adjust for months with 30 and 31 days. Only once a year, on March 1st, is it necessary to adjust the date.

Located at 3 o’clock, the running indicator makes it possible to check at a glance the functioning of the running movement. It is composed of successive Super-LumiNova and black sectors for visibility even in low light.

Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), the calibre RMAC2 relies on PVD-treated grade 5 titanium baseplate and bridges and is powered by a free-sprung balance. 

The energy imparted by the variable geometry rotor is stored in two barrels, providing a 50-hour power reserve (± 10%). The actual power reserve results will depend on the period of time the chronograph is utilised.

The free-sprung balance with variable inertia guarantees greater reliability when subjected to shocks for better chronometric results over time.
