MB&F - Legacy Machine No.2 Palladium

Launched by MB&F in 2013 as a forward-looking expression of traditional mechanical watchmaking, the Legacy Machine No.2, or more simply LM2, has been presented in a variety of materials, including red gold, white gold, platinum and titanium.

The Swiss brand is now launching a new interpretation of this fascinating model crafted from Palladium, a rare and light platinum-group metal characterised by a natural white colour.

The 44 mm x 20 mm case of the new Legacy Machine No.2 Palladium frames an elegant aquamarine sunray dial, with subtle pale green, grey and blue tones.

Under a domed sapphire crystal cupola, the white stretched lacquer sub dial at 12 o'clock, with its blued gold hour and minute hands, is visually balanced by the large, raised differential at 6 o'clock.

Suspended high above the dial from four gracefully arcing arms, the two flying balances and their escapements are identical mirror images independently beating at the frequency of 2.5 Hz (18,000 vibrations per hour).

Their average rates are transmitted by the above mentioned differential to a single gear train, where it finally manifests itself as the displayed time.

Comprised of 241 components and offering 45 hours of power reserve, the movement of Legacy Machine No.2 was developed to MB&F's specifications by award-winning watchmaker Jean-François Mojon (you can read our interview here) and his team at Chronode.

Another independent master watchmaker, Kari Voutilainen, ensured that the movement’s aesthetic style was consistent with high-quality traditional timepieces of the 19th century using decorative techniques such Geneva waves, gold chatons, mirror-polished bevels and bridges designed with deliberate internal bevelled angles (which cannot be finished by machine).

In line with MB&F's spirit of transparency, the names of the two men responsible for the movement are hand engraved on the back.
