Seiko - Prospex 1965 and 1970 Diver’s Reinterpretations, SPB239 and SPB237

Seiko is enriching its Prospex collection with modern reinterpretations of two successful diver's watches of the brand from 1965 and 1970.

Seiko Prospex 1965 and 1970 Diver’s SPB239 and SPB237

Maintaining the fascinating vintage look of the past, the two new models have been updated in their specifications and performances.

The dials are now protected by curved sapphire crystals treated with an antireflective coating on the inner surface and water resistance has been increased from 150 to 200 metres.

The indexes, as well as the hour, minute and seconds hands, are coated with Lumibrite of a specially faded vintage colour matching the tones of dials and straps.

The 1965 diver’s reinterpretation ref. SPB239J1 comes in a 40.5 mm x 13.2 mm stainless steel case with super-hard coating, screw-down crown and screw case back. Dial and unidirectional rotating bezel are brown.

The case of the 1970 diver’s reinterpretation ref. SPB237J1 is slightly larger with a diameter of 42.7 mm. Thickness is 13.2 mm. The textured gray dial is framed by a black bezel.

The 1965 and 1970 diver’s reinterpretations are presented on special fabric straps expressly designed for diver’s use and with a tensile strength nearly four times that of regular Seiko fabric straps. An alternative fabric strap is also delivered. No tools are required to change straps.

The movement of choice for both is the reliable Caliber 6R35 that beats at the frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vph) and guarantees a power reserve of 70 hours.

The recommended retail prices are Euro 1,250 for reference SPB239 and Euro 1,350 for reference SPB237. seikowatches.com

  1. Nice models. I think the 1970 is the most interesting. The movement are not so good, though.
