On occasion of SIHH 2018, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey are presenting a timepiece that contains their 5th Fundamental Invention: the Différentiel d’Égalité.
This invention enables steady distribution of power from the mainspring barrel to the regulating organ, which maintains a constant balance amplitude during the 60 hours of the power reserve.
The new model is also the first of the Maison to integrate dead-beat seconds making it easier to read and to set the time precisely. They are displayed through the sub-dial between 4 and 5 o'clock while a smaller continuous seconds sub-dial is visible near the balance wheel.
The timepiece is equipped with a balance wheel stop and seconds reset activated by pulling the crown. The heart and the hammer of this mechanism are visible on the movement side.
To guarantee excellent mean/averaged balance wheel performance, the 30° angle of the balance wheel and escapement minimises the effects of gravity and ensures efficient movement performance in stable positions.
The aesthetics of this timepiece reflects the signature design code of the brand. A high-domed sapphire crystal protects the dial where a large opening offers a glimpse of the complexity of the movement. The case has a diameter of 44.00 mm and a total height of 15.30 mm.
The movement side shows the “stop/reset” mechanism and the engraved inscriptions which encapsulate the key values that Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey instill in their creations. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, the movement is comprised of 359 parts.
