At Baselworld 2015, Vulcain presented several new models for the iconic 50s Presidents's Watch collection.
The 50s Presidents' Watch was originally introduced in 1947 as the first wristwatch equipped with a fully operational alarm function, an innovation which earned the brand its reputation with American presidents from Harry S. Truman onwards. Since then, each American president have owned a Vulcain watch.
Vulcain is now introducing new restyled dials which enhance the elegance and refinement of this model. In particular, the main novelty is represented by a precious guilloché dial in four colour variations - silver, sandstone, charcoal, and black - that can be matched to Louisiana alligator straps in different nuances.
The classic case, made of 316L stainless steel, has a diameter of 42 mm with a height of 13.90 mm including the dome-shaped sapphire crystal. It offers a water resistance of 5 ATM.
A steel case with bezel, crown and push button in 18K gold is available, combined to either a greystone or a charcoal grey guilloché dial.
Vulcain also presented a sportier version with a chocolate-toned sunray dial, Arabic numerals at 3, 9, and 12, and a dark brown calfskin strap with the characteristic carbon appearance.
All these new 50s Presidents' Watch models are powered by the Cricket Manufacture V11 hand-wound calibre, equipped with an alarm function and the Exactomatic system for greater accuracy and better regularity in the operation of the watch while it is being worn. The alarm duration is about 20 seconds and can be stopped using the push button at 2 o'clock. Beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours.
