This year, during the Baselworld 2015 show, the Saxon watchmaker Glashütte Original presented a new version of its Senator Observer characterised by a matt black dial heavily treated with green Super-LumiNova for perfect legibility even in poor light conditions.
The white gold hour and minute hands, bold Arabic numerals, and chapter ring hour indexes are all highlighted with a phosphorescent pigment that absorbs light by day and emits it at night. The same treatment is used for the hand and indexes of the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock and the power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock.
The font used for the hour numerals is taken from the precision pocket watches made in Glashütte at the beginning of the 20th century.
The dial is completed by the Panorama Date display at the centre of the lower half.
The new Senatore Observer is powered by the automatic Calibre 100-14, a 4Hz (28,800 vph) movement with a 55 hour power reserve. The movement - with the characteristic stripe finished Glashütte three-quarter plate and skeletonized rotor with 21-carat gold oscillating weight - can be admired through the sapphire case back.
The new Senator Observer comes in a 44 mm polished and satin-brushed stainless steel case and it is available with a black calfskin strap fitted with a stainless steel foldover clasp, or with a stainless steel link bracelet. Retail prices are Euro 9,900 / US$ 11,800 with strap or Euro 11,100 / US$ 13,300 with bracelet. glashuette-original.com
