Grand Seiko - 44GS Historical Collection

Grand Seiko was created in 1960 by Seiko to build higher quality, higher precision timepieces, or - quoting Seiko - "the best luxury watches in the world". While we believe that Seiko's most ambitious goal has not yet been achieved, for sure Grand Seiko has demonstrated that it can compete with the best Swiss mechanical watch manufacturers in terms of performance and precision. It is not by chance that the Grand Seiko timepieces performed so well in the Swiss chronometer contests achieving the first place in the mechanical watch category of the Geneva Observatory in 1968.

Since the birth of Grand Seiko, its development has been constant and new calibres have continuously pushed back the frontiers of watchmaking excellence, with the latest manifestation being the automatic hi-beat 36000 calibre 9S released in 2009 with in-house developed mainspring, balance spring, escape wheel and pallet.

In celebration of 100 years of Seiko watchmaking, at BaselWorld 2013 Seiko released a new edition of the 1960s Grand Seiko 44GS classic.

Stainless steel

Characterised by clean edges, flat surfaces and the minimalist dial design, the Grand Seiko 44GS houses the hand wound 9S64 calibre, a high-accuracy 28,800 vph movement (+5 to -3 seconds a day) with a 72-hour power reserve when fully wound.

The case diameter is 37.9 mm and it offers water resistance to 30 mt. The sapphire crystal has anti-reflection coating on the inner surface. The case back carries the Grand Seiko emblem.
